TOM BOWDIIDGE FOUNDATION
CARE HOME COMMUNITY NAMED AFTER LOCAL FOUNDATION
A care community within Colchester’s newest care home, Woodland View on Turner Road, has been named Tom Bowdidge Boulevard in honour of a local foundation that helps young people with cancer.
The naming of Tom Bowdidge Boulevard celebrates the friendship between Woodland View and the Tom Bowdidge Foundation and shows the care home’s commitment to supporting organisations and individuals in the local area.
Woodland View also presented the Tom Bowdidge Foundation with a cheque for £250 to mark the naming of Tom Bowdidge Boulevard.
The donation will be used to help fund an exciting new research project into teenage cancer, being undertaken by The Institute of Cancer Research, which the Tom Bowdidge Foundation is funding.
The Tom Bowdidge Foundation was launched in 2014 by Richard and Nikki Bowdidge in memory of their son Tom Bowdidge who died of a desmoplastic small round cell tumour and extensive peritoneal disease aged 19. The foundation raises funds to support research projects and to provide physical and emotional support to teenagers and young people with cancer.
The newly named care community will provide care for individuals in need of nursing care when the new home opens this summer.
Mark McDonald, General Manager at Woodland View said: “Woodland View Care Home will play an important role in the community and we are keen to strengthen links with local charities and to support their charitable aims. The Tom Bowdidge Foundation tirelessly fundraises to help young people with cancer and the whole team at Woodland View has great admiration for Richard and Nikki and the work that they do.”
