Children from Queen Boudica School, accompanied by staff from Woodland View Care Home, have buried a time capsule in the new home’s grounds on Turner Road.

Ten Year 3 pupils have chosen items to put into the capsule which are linked to this year, including recent newspaper clippings from the Colchester Gazette, photos of the class, pictures drawn by the children and even a Loom Band bracelet made by a pupil as a reminder of one of the biggest crazes of the last few years.

The pupils were each given a £10 voucher as a thank you for their involvement in burying the time capsule and a cheque for £100 was presented to Queen Boudica School by the Woodland View Care Home team.

The 60-bed purpose-built care home is run by Barchester Healthcare, which owns more than 220 care homes in the UK, and the marketing suite is now open for people to view. When the home opens in late summer, Woodland View will offer high quality nursing and residential services as well as specialised dementia care to the local area.

Mark McDonald, General Manager at Woodland View, said: “I’m pleased that we can involve local school children in this momentous occasion. They have thought of some fantastic items to include in the time capsule. From leaves to Loom Bands, they were very creative in finding things that represent the time and place of the capsule burial. When the time capsule is dug up 50 years from now, the new care home will be long-established in the community.”
