A great evening was had by all at the Gala dinner held on Saturday night to celebrate the Golden Oyster Awards at the Food and Drink Festival. The catering was carried out by Patrik Minder from The Lemon Tree and he produced a mouth watering 5 course dinner including some of my favourite foods. We started off before dinner with oysters washed down with Pimms or Guiness. At dinner we were treated to some delicious warm smoked salmon from Sladbury's farm on a potato pancake with a herb salad and dressing followed by an absolutely delicious and cleansing apple sorbet with calvados! For the main course Patrik cooked up one of my favourites - Noisette of Fingringhoe lamb with butterbean mash (absolutely delicious!) and rosmeary butter. This was rounded up with some delightful pouddings and cheese.

Don Quinn from Snake in The Grass put on a great show and was on hand to announce the winners; -

  • Chef of the Year was by Paul Borman of Clarice House
  • Directors' Choice went to Neil Rippington from The Centre for Hospitality and Food Studies at Colchester Institute
  • Restaurant of the Year was awarded to the Lemon Tree and Baumanns Brasserie
  • Restaurauteur of the Year was Patrik Minder

Many congratulations to all the winners.
