29th May 2013

As you know, these are tough economic times and we all need to support our local independent retailers, of which Cirencester is blessed with many.

The Buy Local campaign is about supporting our local economy and making people aware of the great independent shops and businesses in Cirencester.  Our town is full of fantastic high quality butchers, coffee shops, craft shops and service providers (to name but a few), all of which are run by great people who care about what they do and sell.  We have a collective responsibility to support our local businesses, help our town to thrive, and keep it the unique place we love.

During Buy Local week thebestof will be giving away 5 x £100 vouchers daily to people who pledge to ‘Buy Local’. The vouchers are to be spent with a bestof business member. Local members include: Jesse’s Bistro, Jesse Smith Butchers, Limes Hair Company, The Old Boathouse Pub, Spa 6 and Kay Ransom Photography. On Saturday 8th June thebestof Cirencester will have a stall at the Farmers Market where we will be giving out 200 Buy Local bags for life and 200 balloons (for FREE!) as well as surveying locals to find out how we get more people investing in our local economy. People who pledge to ‘Buy Local’ on the day and say which local business they couldn’t do without, will go into a draw to win £50 of Jesse Smiths Butchers vouchers, tickets to the Cirencester Beer Festival, a fish and chip supper for two from Sea Fare in Chesterton, a £25 voucher to spend at Cirencester Farmers Market or a £25 voucher for the Charter Market!! The draw will take place the same day and winners will be notified by email.

Throughout the week of 3rd-9th June will be encouraging people to Tweet about their favourite local businesses with the hashtag #BuyLocal.

What good does buying local do?

-          It makes a BIG difference. The population of Ciren is around £20,000. If everyone here spent just £5 a week more in a local shop, imagine how much extra that will put into our local economy! Far too much for me to count on my fingers and toes..

-          Its great for community spirit. To most of these independent shops you’re not just a face, you’re a much loved customer.

-          Investment in our local economy helps make our town a better place to live, work and visit.

So make sure you get involved and Buy Local. By investing in Cirencester’s economy, you can make a difference to Cirencester’s future, so do your bit and pledge to Buy Local!

If you want to get more involved then contact us at cirencester@thebestof.co.uk. We also have posters, bunting and Buy Local stickers which are FREE for local businesses.
