The Essex Record Office (ERO) is the storehouse of Essex history, caring for documents, images, and sound and video recordings that together tell the story of nearly 1,000 years of our county's past.
Visitors can access these unique collections for themselves in our Searchroom, and can search the collections online at www.essexarchivesonline.co.uk
If you are unable to visit us in person, we have Reprographics and Search Services. Digital images of some of our most frequently used documents are available online through our subscription service.
ERO can supply copies of birth, marriage and death certificates for events registered in Essex.
We host regular events, and offer a range of education services.
ERO has a range of spaces available for hire in central Chelmsford, including for weddings.
