Essex Dementia Care is a charity set up to meet the needs of people living with dementia.

Back in 2006 Tessa Perrin an Occupational Therapist of more than 25 years realised the lack of services for people with dementia. As a result she went about setting up a non for profit organisation and later in 2009 we became a charity. We are also regulated by the Care Quality Commission.

We have two main services:

One2One:

Our Care Manager will come and visit you in your own home and conduct an informal and free assessment, we will find out what your needs are so that we can tailor the support and allocate the right practitioner to the person with dementia. Where possible the same person visits each time and will build up a trusted and good relationship, this will also ensure continuity of care.

All our practitioners have a car enabling us to provide a varied and enjoyable activity each time we visit. There is a minimum of 2 hours for each session. We also offer sessions after 6pm and at weekends.

We are now delivering 700 hours per month of One2One care in and around Essex. This service is proving to be very popular because we are so flexible and it is a great way to encourage living well with dementia. It also helps to maintain someone in their own home for much longer. We know how important it is for the carer to get that much needed respite so that they can feel supported as well.

Dementia Oasis Activity Centres:

We Started the Oasis Centres 5 years ago for people in the mid to late stages of dementia. We quickly realised that there was a need for a group setting for the early stages of dementia too.

We now have in:

Braintree 2 days called Braintree Oasis (Monday & Friday) 11-3.30pm. Mid to late stages of dementia.

Braintree also has 2 days called Every Day Counts (Wednesday & Thursday) 11-4pm. Early stages of dementia.

Southend on Sea 1 day called St. Luke’s Oasis (Wednesday) 11-3.30pm. Mid to late stages of dementia.

Breaking news!

We are to open another activity centre in Chelmsford 1 day a week in May 2105 called Chelmsford Oasis (Tuesday) 11.30-3.00pm. Mid to late stages of dementia.

These activity days are a wonderful way to meet socially with other club members and to enjoy a rich menu of activity from arts & crafts, singing & dancing, trying new things, themed days, and exercise in a fun way and much more. We also have a cook who serves up a very tasty 2 course meal. We have 60 club members attending our activity centres each week.

Life doesn’t stop with dementia.
