Here at Nerds HQ we are getting asked on a daily basis if it’s worth taking advantage of the free windows 10 upgrade that is currently on offer from Microsoft. We are also spending a lot of time reverting people’s machines back to their previous operating system as their upgrade has gone wrong somewhere along the way.Firstly, it is important to keep in mind that it isn’t compulsory to update to windows 10 and there is no sign of windows stopping support of the other current operating systems that are still available, apart from windows Vista.
Unfortunately, Microsoft will be withdrawing support within the next 12 months. If you are running a machine on windows XP or Vista, you will not be able to take advantage of this free upgrade due to the age of your operating system.
If, however, you are on Windows Vista and you are experiencing problems. We get many Windows Vista machines in to HQ that are giving their owners trouble, majority of the time this is purely because it is still running on Vista and this old operating system is no longer able to keep up with the pace of today’s technology. You will need to update your machine within the next 12 months to ensure that you will still be support by Microsoft.
Our technicians speak very highly of the new operating system and recommend it to our customers as a good improvement on previous operating systems, and say it’s worth upgrading whilst it is still free.
So here our top tips to ensure your cross over to Windows 10 is a smooth one!
Makes sure your computer is clear of any malicious software
Back up your data - just in case
Follow all on screen instructions carefully
