The game began as a friendly, but the competitive nature of the participants soon shone through. The first major incident came from great preparation work down the right from Steve of Chase Accident Repair. He had been spraying the ball all over the pitch before creating the first chance which was confidently polished off by Nick of Professional Car Cleaning.
Eddie of ES Print provided an exhibition like display in the centre of the park, able to put rugby rivalry to one side when faced with the imposing figure of Martin of Ansons in full flow. Ansons structured their team around Mark who used his wealth of experience to calculate when to attack and when to hold the fort.
Allan of Dunham Guest and Lyons seemed highly motivated by the challenge and worked tirelessly, refusing to be beaten by the opposition settling for nothing less than 100%. His teammate, Mike from Rapid Remap put in an economic performance covering maximum distance with minimal effort thanks to his reading of the game.
Anton of Premier Garage Doors occupied thebestofcannock goal, and it seemed he was unbeatable knocking shots up and over the bar with ease, however, on the half hour mark the lock was picked by a slick move from the Ansons forwards. On the side line the Champagne was starting to Popp but Ansons were not willing to settle for a draw and pushed forward in waves.
thebestofcannock needed a lift, it was down to Andy of Bird and Yates to provide the spark, he plugged away and serviced the front line until his battery faded late on.
It was going to take something special to break the dead lock between the teams. Adam had been very dependable in goal for Ansons and was only beaten by thebestof shots from Steve of thebestofcannock. Simon of SSS Media had designs on adding to the score with some silky play but was thwarted by Adam.
Martin was at the centre of a penalty dispute which was waved away for Ansons after what was clearly a dive from the enthusiastic forward.
In the final minutes a loose ball fell to Steve of Chase Accident Repair to finish the game off, but his teammates looked in despair as it went crashing into the advertising boards.
The full time silence sounded with thebestofcannock delighted to launch the team with a 2-1 victory, the disappointment for Ansons was conveyed on the face of Neil Jones. A rematch will have to be scheduled. The Ansons team will have to be back in the office as outlined by the company as no win, no fee for the team of solicitors.
