There is something to suit everyone and courses will be delivered across the region at our Colleges in Tamworth, Lichfield, Cannock and Rodbaston. Prefer to stay at home? No problem, there are tons of online courses you can study from the comfort of your home too.
The best bit? Your chosen course may also be free!
Courses on offer have been designed to meet skills shortages in the West Midlands, so not only will you be supported to achieve the right qualifications but we’ll help you to develop skills that businesses in your local area really want - helping you to gain employment.
The Government has recently re-launched ‘sector-based work academies’ to help get Britain working again. If you’re ready for work and in receipt of benefits to secure employment you could work with an employer to meet their employment requirements between 3 days and 6 weeks. This means you can gain relevant work experience working in your chosen industry, whilst still claiming benefits, and get travel and childcare costs paid for the duration of your placement. Upon completion of your course, you will be guaranteed an interview for a real job opportunity!
South Staffordshire College has a wide range of courses to help you get back into employment or begin self-employed work. You can study across a wide range of career areas including: accounts, business, animal care, construction, digital, education, early years, health and social care, engineering, science, English, maths, hair, beauty, travel and retail – there really is something for everyone, whatever your career goal.
Not sure what career path you’d like to pursue? One of our STEP UP programmes could give you an introduction into working in a specific sector. The programme also helps to provide you with interview techniques, help creating a CV and boosting your confidence.
If you know what industry you’d like to kickstart your career within, the colleges short 2 day ‘Get Work Ready’ programme could help you to get application ready. As well as learning how to effectively use job search databases, the programme will also teach you top tips to help you stand out at a job interview and how to effectively answer interview questions.
Kirk Hookham, Deputy CEO of South Staffordshire College said “We see our role as a College to be the place where those who find themselves unemployed or recently redundant come to for the support they need in order to get employed. For this reason, we have created a wide range of programmes to help people get back into employment either through studying face to face classes or online. We can also offer sector-based work academies by working with employers, we can offer bite sized classes through to apprenticeships and a lot more. Our aim as a college is to transform lives and providing this brand-new suite of programmes, we believe, is a big step in the right direction”.
Adult learners (19+) can apply to the college for support with funding childcare, travel or equipment costs through its bursary scheme. To find out more information please email firstname.lastname@example.org
