Prime Minster David Cameron visited Cannock Chase on Wednesday 5th January to meet with local MP Aidan Burley and Conservative Councillors who represent Cannock on the District Council and Staffordshire County Council. Group Leader, Cllr Ann Bernard, introduced the Prime Minister to the local Councillors.
Aidan briefed the Prime Minister on the importance of manufacturing industry locally and the central role that the Chase plays in the area. The meeting came as the Government announced plans to create up to 40,000 new businesses by 2013 as part of its strategy for growth and job creation. This will be achieved through the New Enterprise Allowance to help thousands of unemployed people set up their own businesses.
After the meeting Aidan said: “It’s not every day the Prime Minister visits our town, so I took the opportunity to speak with him about support for our business community and the need to encourage growth, investment and private sector jobs in our area.”
