The new community facility will replace the Aquarius ballroom, which was demolished to make way for the new Victoria Shopping Park in Hednesford, which will feature an 80,000 sq ft Tesco store and a parade of seven retail units, as well as the new community facility. It will have 640 car parking spaces, new bus facilities and is close to Hednesford railway station.
Victoria Shopping Park is part of the wider regeneration of Hednesford town centre that is being carried out by the Council’s development partner St Modwen. The £50 million regeneration also includes Chase Gateway at the other end of town, which already features new retail units and will soon have a new Aldi supermarket.
Cannock Chase Council is now looking for an individual group, business or organisation through a competitive tender process to take an operational lease of the new community facility and to develop it into a vibrant community venue.
The new community facility will be located on the corner of Victoria Street and Market Street and will comprise a first-floor unit with pedestrian access via lift and stairs from a ground-floor lobby.
The community facility will have a 3,500 sq ft main hall with stage and timber dance floor and a 1,300 sq ft function room. Two bar areas will serve both these areas and there will also be a fully equipped kitchen and food storage area.
To obtain a copy of the tender details and layout plans for the building, email Geoff Winslow, the Council’s strategic assets manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org Proposals have to be submitted to the Council by Friday 2nd November.
Cllr Diane Todd, Cannock Chase Council Town Centre Regeneration Leader, said: “As well as being a popular dance venue, the Aquarius Ballroom also hosted local community events, wedding receptions and family parties. It is envisaged that these uses will be a feature of the new facility and we look forward to hearing from interested parties who want to develop this fantastic new facility for the town.”
