No more M6 jams?

Work is underway on the M6 near to Cannock to widen the carriageway from the traditional 3 lanes to 4 lanes. This comes at the expense of the hard shoulder and £90 million with variable speed limiting systems.

The Highways Agency say the 4th 'live' lane will cut congestion and be safer. The loss of the hard shoulder as a refuge area for broken down vehicles to stop and wait for assistance has to be a concern for anyone who has ever had car trouble on the motorway.

I do hope the plans keep the motorway moving as it is essential for people and businesses throughout Cannock and the Midlands, but lets just hope it's well managed and the loss of the hard shoulder does not come at the greatest cost of all, human life.

The work will be undertaken between junctions 10A and 13.
