Greenfields (Sport Surfaces) UK Limited have started work to create a full size 3rd generation artificial grass football pitch at Cardinal Griffin Catholic High School.
This exciting community based project costing £718,000 has been funded by Cannock Chase Council (£345,000), the Football Foundation (£319,000) and Cardinal Griffin Catholic High School (£54,000).
Pupils at the school and from other schools will have the opportunity to use the facility during the day, and then in the evening and at weekends it will be used by the community, including local football clubs.
Construction will continue through the Spring with completion and opening of the new facility anticipated to be in May 2012.
Councillor Christine Mitchell, Cannock Chase Council Culture and Sport Leader, said:
“This exciting project is now coming to fruition and will be the first full size 3G football pitch in the district. It will provide excellent facilities for pupils; young people and the sporting community and I hope the community of Cannock Chase will support the school in making it a success”.
Headteacher Michael Burrowes said:
“There has been a huge commitment by all partners, the school, the Diocese, Cannock Chase District, Staffordshire County Council, Staffordshire Football Association and the Football Foundation. It will truly be a community facility.
It is not for the school but for the whole community of Cannock Chase and will be available to benefit everyone in the district”
The school is excited about running this new facility and it will be available to hire by the community during evenings and weekends.
The school are still looking to obtain funding to support this facility so if any sponsors are willing to invest in this fabulous new facility, the first of its kind in the District, then please contact the school on 01543 502215.
