Here are some ways that you can keep your hot tub clean, along with some accessories that will help you with this:

Choose a sanitiser
You can choose between bromine and chlorine. We recommend that you get a starter pack if you’ve never had a hot tub before. It gives you all the essentials as well as a guide on how to use the sanitizer. It may be a good idea to invest in a dispenser that will release the sanitizer gradually and over time.

Reduce the chemical usage
To reduce the chemical usage, you can add a UV generator, enzymes, mineral sticks or an ozone generator. Although you can’t completely cut down on using sanitizers, using these methods can certainly help reduce the chemical usage.

Buy water test strips or a test kit
Ideally you should test the water 3-4 times a week using water test strips. Regularly checking the water means that you’ll be able to manage your cleaning schedule. Generally speaking, chlorine should stay between 2-3 ppm and bromine should remain between 3-5 ppm.

Maintain the pH levels
Keeping the pH levels as neutral as possible is vital. If the pH drops too low, you will need to increase it and if the pH levels are too high you will need to decrease it. To control the pH there are a few products you’ll need to invest in. You can get a pH minimiser and pH increaser which will be ideal to keep things in control.

Shock the water
In order to revive bromine or chlorine that’s been suspended, you may need to shock the water. Using shock treatments aid in removing impurities like body oils, cosmetics, perspirations etc. To see what kind of products you need for this, click here.

Chemical control
By inputting chemicals in the hot tub, you can solve specific problems like excess foaming, moulding etc. You can buy various products to help you solve these issues.

Filter maintenance
Performing regular filter maintenance is very important. It’s the key to maintaining your hot tub. Make sure you remove and clean the filter with a hose at least once a week – it’s a good idea to stock up on filters as the spa can’t run without a filter. Filters should be replaced when they become grey and black or no longer work effectively. To see our range of filters, click here.

Empty out the hot tub
Occasionally, you will need to drain out your hot tub. After a few months you’ll see that you may be unable to maintain the chemical balance in the water. To do this, you will need to empty the hot tub and give it a good clean before you refill it with water.

Whilst you may be tempted to use household cleaning products on your hot tub, we strongly advise against this. There are specialist cleaning items available specifically for hot tubs that will ensure that your spa stays in tip top condition and working order.
