Councillors voted to support numerous local groups at a meeting earlier this year, before inviting their representatives to a presentation evening.

Grants awarded were £500 each to AFC Greenheath, Hednesford in Partnership, Katharine House Hospice, St John Ambulance, and a monthly Alzheimer’s support evening. £370 was awarded to Support Staffordshire Cannock Chase while Cannock Area Cats protection and Cruse Bereavement Care each received £250. Staffordshire and West Midlands North Sector Hednesford Detachment Army Cadets benefited from £130.

Grants of £100 were also awarded to a number of schools and organisations thanks to their help and support with Hednesford’s annual Christmas event. These included: West Hill Primary School, Hednesford Valley High, Redhill Primary School, St Peter’s Primary School, Pye Green Academy, Stars Academy, Kingsmead Technology College, Staffordshire University Academy, Cannock Chase Drama Society, Lions and Burntwood Rotary. Rugeley Power Station Band received £50.

Cllr Derek Davis, chairman of the Finance and General Purposes Committee said: “The council will continue to support community organisations where it can to help dedicated individuals help others. We owe these groups a great deal of thanks. We have to balance our books carefully but are delighted that we are still able to award these grants.”

Carol Owen, from Hednesford in Partnership which is supporting regeneration in the town centre said: “We would like to say a big thank you to the council for its kind donation, we have a number of projects in the pipeline which will benefit the people of Hednesford and this grant can play a key role in helping them become a reality.”
