As of Tuesday 1st November Cannock TIP will be charging those using the facility for all types of DIY waste.
The charges apply to soil / rubble of all types at £3 per standard bag / item (e.g. toilet). Plasterboard will be charged at £4 per bag / 180am x 90cm sheet.
Tyres will also be charged for at £4 per tyre.
Payments must be made by credit or debit card at the TIP.
Other items can still be taken to the TIP with no charge including garden waste, fridges, freezers, TVs, bric-a-brac and regular household waste.
These charges have been brought in to contribute toward the costs disposing of the materials as the disposal of the DIY waste is not a statutory duty for waste sites.
The charges have not been welcomed by residents who fear fly tipping will rise as people look to avoid paying the charges which could easily mount up as people fill mutiple bags.
These new charges mean residents should consider hiring a skip for all types of household DIY.
