The Council have announced a pilot scheme to reduce parking to just 10p per hour in a bid to increase town centre footfall.
The idea sounds good, but the reduced car parking is only available after 3pm, leaving just 2 hours of trading time.
The pilot is due to start on 2nd January, so missing the busier Christmas period, running until 30th June 2014.
Councillor Diane Todd, Portfolio Leader for Town Centre Regeneration said "We have listened to local traders and want to do all we can to help increase trade into our town centres. It is another example of the Council trying to support its town centres and sits alongside the funds the Council is putting in to the centres to improve their appearance and encourage retailers to take on vacant units."
Let's hope the scheme can increase footfall for town centre traders in Cannock, but I am sure the scheme has it's doubters.
