Bon appétit! Cambridge care home to host food festival
  • Heathlands House Care Home, Bullen Close, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire
    CB1 8YU
  • Friday 7th August 1:30pm until 3:29pm
With festival season officially under way, a care home in Cambridge is welcoming the local community for a fun-filled afternoon of food and celebration.

On Friday 7th August from 1.30–3.30pm, Care UK’s Heathlands House will open its doors to families and neighbours for a free food festival, inviting guests to tuck in and celebrate the nation’s shared love of great cuisine, community and connection.

Visitors to the Bullen Close home can look forward to a street food party celebrating international cuisines, with the Head Chef on hand to share top tips for creating delicious meals when there are only leftovers in the fridge.

Guests will be treated to family-friendly entertainment including games in the garden as well as learning how thoughtful food choices can support a more environmentally friendly community.

Resident Maria Munafo said: “I used to visit my uncle back home in Sicily as a young girl and he grew lots of vegetables and vines for wine in his garden. My mum used to pick his fresh tomatoes and make the most amazing pasta with tomato sauce, which was my favourite.”

The event is part of the ‘A Taste of Home’ initiative, which will see Care UK homes across the country host foodie-themed celebrations and showcase what life in a care home is really like.

Each festival will offer sustainable, community-focused activities while championing the diversity and creativity within the homes, from residents’ favourite recipes to seasonal menus featuring locally sourced ingredients.

Razvan Stanbeca, Home Manager at Heathlands House, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting our very own food festival!

“We are part of a strong community here in Cambridge, and days like this are a wonderful way of bringing people together to celebrate our love of food while giving residents the opportunity to share their favourite recipes and traditions with younger generations.

“The afternoon not only promises a lot of laughter, but it is also an excellent way for residents to meet and mingle with lots of new faces – and some familiar ones. We can’t wait to welcome everyone through the doors.”
