Christopher's Smile - Sponsored Walk - 18th April 2010

Christopher's Smile was set up in October 2008 and the aim is to raise funds to support research into new treatments for childhood cancers. Having endured 21 months of horrendous suffering with their little boy who sadly lost his fight to cancer, aged 5, Karen & Kevin Capel wanted to make a difference for others in the future.

To date they have raised over £110,000 and have funded a researcher who is now testing new drugs to treat children’s cancers. They hope this testing will lead to clinical trials and ultimately to new effective treatments without the devastating side effects from current treatment.

Their vision is, 'that every child diagnosed with childhood cancer to not only survive, but to reach adulthood enjoying a good quality of life'.

Through events such as the sponsored walk on 18th April, their aim is to raise awareness and funds to support research into childhood cancers as well as to bring people together and enjoy doing something positive.

They take nothing out for administration and every penny raised goes directly to fund research. The walk in Lightwater Country Park is in memory of their son and they hope it will be the first of an annual event, which they would look to organise every year.

They will have refreshments following the walk, and the Mayor - Cllr. Craig Fennell - will present the under 10s with medals and certificates and they’ll be holding a charity raffle as well.

They just need you to come along and join them!
