Voters are being reminded to make sure they are ready to take part in the local elections this Thursday (3 May).

Across Bury:

* There are 143,757eligible voters

* 110 polling stations will be open

* 231 polling station staff will be on duty

Pat Jones-Greenhalgh, electoral registration officer for Bury, said: “Putting a cross in a box is simple, but there are plenty of things voters might need to consider.

“Your poll card will tell you the location of your polling station. If you are on the voters’ register, you do not need to take your poll card with you to vote; however, we encourage residents to do so as it may make the process quicker and more efficient.

“Polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 3 May.Voters who have chosen to have a postal vote need to make sure their postal ballot pack is returned by 10pm, and they can hand it in at their polling station or at Bury Town Hall if they don’t have time to return it by post.”

The Electoral Commission advises voters not to take photos inside their polling station as they could potentially breach the secrecy of the ballot requirements.

Pat added: “There is more information about voting at www.yourvotematters.co.uk, or you can call Bury Electoral Services team on 0161 253 5252.”
