When was the last time you checked your gutters?

When the wind starts picking up, all sorts can get caught up in it. Now we’re not talking cows, cars or houses, a la The Wizard of Oz, we’re staying firmly put in the real world and talking leaves, litter and the like.

Katy Perry knows what we mean… a plastic bag, drifting through the wind, wanting to start again(!)… watch it get carried up, up and away… before it lands, inevitably on somebody’s roof, collecting enough weight in rainwater, leaves and debris to hold it firmly in place in the gutter. Over time, this plastic bag is joined by a birds nest, autumn leaves and, inexplicably, a year-old copy of Hello! Magazine. This waste begins to deteriorate, mash together and form a blockage which stops water draining off and away from your property.

So what’s the problem? Not only does it look unsightly, but your gutter is there to ensure that your house doesn’t suffer from water damage. It takes it away from the walls and runs it down and out – away from the foundations.

Whilst your gutters are usually fine, and it’s easy to forget about them until something goes wrong, damage to your gutters can cause structural damage, or damp can possibly cause health issues to you and your family, which is why you must get them checked regularly to prevent situations such as this from occurring.

Whether you have iron, steel or plain old plastic gutters, they need checking and cleaning. Hiring an expert such as Dale from Ramsbottom Roofing means that any potential problems can be spotted quickly and something can be done about them! Not only that, but it saves you from doing an undesirable job for yourself! Now… where’s that number for the person who can do my ironing?
