What to look for when choosing a trusted trade?

Here are a few pointers to be aware of when looking to employ a trade for that all important job.

It's all too easy to be drawn in by the friendly chap that knocks at the door, the person that offers a price that can't be beaten or a company that can actually fit in the work in the next week or so.

Rather than tell you all the bad things to look out for, we thought we'd share with you just a few positive pointers in what to look for when choosing a trustworthy company.

Does the business have a website?

Most established businesses will do, and here you'll find out about the range of services they provide.
These may also include images of their own work and of themselves. A business that is willing to show their face is a business that isn't afraid of the work they produce.

What can the business tell you about their experience?
Find out how long a business has been trading and what
they have achieved. Ask to see examples of their work and their health and safety policy.

Are they accredited?

we're not saying that if a business doesn't hold accreditations that they aren't good at what they do.
It is however a great comfort that should anything go wrong then there will be a professional body to fall back on for support.

Are they visible?

We've all heard the term "white van man"
What does that tell you about a business?
They would most certainly be hard to find if you had problems.
Choose a business that has sign written, branded vehicles.
They do that for a reason, because they're proud of what they do and want to be recognised.
Uniform also creates a professional image and gives you the extra element of trust.

Do they have reviews?

It goes without saying that when choosing a product or service nowadays, making that final decision will generally be based on what others had to say. Well earned money should be spent wisely, especially when it's a long term investment on such a large project. Be as brave as to ask if you can contact one of their reviewers to give you the extra peace of mind. This will be a great sign of their confidence and credibility.

Are they insured?

This goes without saying but some people simply don't ask.

What's the price?

How much money do they want up front and have they provided you with a written quotation? A credible trade will ask for a deposit and never the full amount up front.

Ensure that the price they quote is the price you pay. It's important to get this clarity.

Lastly

Are you comfortable with the person you are dealing with?
It's important to ensure you receive a good job but it's
more important that you like the people in who you are investing your hard earned cash with, after all they'll be spending quite a bit of time with you!

There are lot's more factors that you may like to consider but these are just a few that we thought may help.
We're proud that all of the trades that we work with have come to us recommended by local people that have used their services.
