Update on the Bus Driver's Strike

Following on from my earlier post about the miserable bus strikes that we have endured for the last two months, I thought I'd better update you all on the latest developments. I'm sure you couldn't have failed to notice that the buses were
actually running this Monday, which was fast becoming a rare occurance!

Drivers stopped striking this week due to intense four-day talks about a new pay deal between first bosses and union representatives. Unite have advised the drivers to accept the deal, which will last until April 2012.

They will vote on the offer tomorrow, and I (and most probably every other first bus passenger) am wondering what the best result would be. On the one hand, if they vote yes, we will have a normal bus service again and the disruption will stop. However, on the other, it is almost inevitable that the passengers will pay through the nose for the wage increase. As if we didnt pay enough already. Has anyone actually bothered listening to the passengers, who pay the driver's wages? I don't think so.

I'll look on the bright side, at least we are not in the same situation as the poor people of Leeds, who have not had their rubbish collected in over 9 weeks due to the refuse collectors strike.
