Finding the time to polish off the to-do list whilst you’re running the kids around, staying late at work and binge-watching the latest series on Netflix often means that you could do with an extra pair of hands.

That’s where Attention For Detail comes in. This one-woman team can take on pretty much anything you throw at her, from fixing squeaky doors and changing a light bulb, to a complete household makeover!

We sat down with Tina to find out more about the girl behind the business, and what drives her fantastic work ethic.

How long have you been in business for?

I’ve been going for around 4 to 5 years, just helping out where I’m needed! No job is too small really, and I enjoy meeting the huge variety of people in and around Bury.

What's your favourite aspect of your job?

I really enjoy turning a room from a 'spare' room into a bedroom, as it can give a home a whole new vibe. Just giving something a bit of extra care and attention can really make the world of difference! However, I’m also very hands-on and I love fixing things.

What's the biggest job you've ever taken on, how long did it take?

I think the biggest job I’ve taken on was re-decorating a whole house, stripping the walls and ceiling before plastering them and then painting everything – including the woodwork! It took me about 3 weeks which is really good going for someone who is working on their own.

What reaction do you get to being a female in a service industry dominated by men?

I think everybody’s main reaction is a bit of shock, but once they’ve gotten over that it’s mainly relief! I think customers prefer having a woman helping out as they feel more at ease, and don’t feel threatened if they’re alone in the house with me, or if they need to pop out, they don’t think twice. It’s a shame that people need to consider those types of things, but I think it’s just the times we live in.

Do you have any advice you'd like to share for any women who are thinking of setting up on their own?

The only advice I can think of is just do it (sorry Nike!). You won’t get anywhere just by thinking about it, so full steam ahead!

What are the biggest challenges you've faced in your career so far?

As a handywoman, the biggest challenge I have faced is simply getting started. It took a while to get the business off the ground, as I get new business via word of mouth and recommendations! These things don’t happen very quickly, but once I had built up my client base, things started moving very quickly.

If you could give any building in the world a makeover, which would it be and what would you do?

That’s a difficult question, but I would love to change the colour of Number 10 Downing Street’s door to yellow. Now we’ve got another woman Prime Minister, I think she’d appreciate the place being brightened up a bit!
