Support For Local Charity Organisation Needed

The Alex Pearson Appeal was set up to help Bury born Alex, who was tragically paralysed below the neck while travelling as a passenger in a Bury taxi. It lost control and crashed head on with an oncoming vehicle on Friday 29th January 2010 at Heap Bridge, Bury.

The legal case will take several years to conclude and, for almost 9 months, 23 year old Alex has been lying in a hospital bed unable to move. He has obviously been out of work since the accident and unlikely to ever work again. His sickness benefit has ceased but because he is still being cared for in hospital he cannot claim any other benefit.

His friends and family have to travel to Southport Hospital's Spinal Injury Unit in order to visit him and the appeal fund is helping Alex's family with travelling expenses. However, this is draining the fund which we are trying to build up in order to give Alex some financial support when he eventually comes out of hospital.

I understand that, due to bogus collections, many businesses have the policy of only donating to 'registered' charities but why do the majority of businesses in Bury insist on hiding behind this policy when we send out a plea for help? This appeal has been well documented in both 'The Bury Times' and 'The Heywood Advertiser', Bury boxing sensation, Scott Quigg, is a keen supporter of this appeal, DW Sports & Fitness of Bury are an active supporter too. Even the town's Football Club have very kindly donated to this appeal.

Why won't the rest of Bury help us to help Alex???

If you wish to know more about Alex's accident and what we are doing to raise funds please feel free to join the facebook group for 'The Alex Pearson Appeal'
