One enterprising resident is bucking the trend for local pub closures by re-opening the popular Eagle & Child as a social enterprise this autumn.

Glen Duckett comes from a catering background but has also has experience in regeneration projects, from youth work and education to horticulture and environmental work.

Glen is set to re-open the Eagle & Child as a community dining venue on Saturday 8th October, as well as employing and training young people who need extra support. The opening day will also be packed full of family activities and visitors can of course sample the great Lancashire dishes on offer!

The Eagle & Child is working in partnership with Employment and Training Pennines and NACRO to employ and train young people, helping them to identify with the food sector. By growing, cooking and serving food these young people will gain important skills in horticulture, hospitality and catering.

Using locally sourced food is also part of the big plan and Glen is set to work with Incredible Edible Ramsbottom in an exciting new education project, which will see the beer garden completely transformed.
