Young Eleanor Fletcher, aged 7 from Ramsbottom, cuts off 12 inches of her lovely hair for charity after finding out her cousin has cancer.

Ellie, from Ramsbottom, had been on a mission to grow her hair for over three years. Her dream was to grow it long enough to sit on – like in Disney's Tangled, however, all this changed when Ellie found out that her cousin, Sally, was wearing a wig due to cancer treatment.

Once explained by her mum, Terri, that wigs can be made from real hair, Ellie made a decision; she wanted to cut her own hair off, and donate it to other children going through treatment.

And, she did it!

A whole 12 INCHES of Ellie’s hair has been chopped off and donated to Little Princess Trust, which makes wigs for children undergoing treatment. 12 INCHES! You can view images of Ellie's cut at the bottom of the blog.

Originally, Ellie and Terri were looking to raise £250 for The Christie from sponsorship of the big hair cut, but very soon this target was beaten. Backed by Ellie’s cousin, Coronation Street star Catherine Tyldesley, the money raised reached over £500 and it’s still growing!

So far, the 7-year-old has raised £642.50 as part of Sally-Anne’s charity, which donates all money to The Christie. Sally-Anne, who is currently undergoing treatment for ovarian cancer, has raised over £38,000 for the centre through fundraising events and, Ellie’s contribution will make it that little bit closer to an astounding £40,000.

Again, well done, Ellie. We love your new hair!

The Christie is one of the largest cancer treatment centres in Europe, providing chemotherapy, radiotherapy and other treatments, as well as support and advice for those diagnosed with cancer and their families.
