Come and join a regular gardening group and keep fit while helping Bury Hospice.

The group has been set up by employees from Bury Council, Pennine Acute Trust, NHS Bury and Greater Manchester Police, and is open to all volunteers whatever their level of gardening experience or knowledge.

Members will be going to the hospice on Dumers Lane once a month to weed, tidy and plant. The group next meets on Saturday 24 September (at 10am) and Thursday 19 October (at 5pm).

Bury Sport and Physical Activity Service is leading the group as an alternative way to get active and healthy while doing something fun and worthwhile for an important local charity.

Barbara Barlow, Trustee at Bury Hospice, said: “Following a chance remark while networking, Bury Hospice has reaped the benefit of the above team who helped with the refurbishment of the garden. Staff, patients, relatives and trustees would like to express their gratitude to all concerned for the donation of plants, their time and hard work.”

* Can you donate equipment for the group to use? The wish list includes a hard bristle sweeping brush, hand trowels, hand forks, gardening gloves, a folding wheelbarrow, and a pair of long-handled loppers. Please call the hospice on 0161 725 9800 if you can help.
