Local businesses proud to support Bury Hospice

A few weeks ago I was at a Christening at our local conservative club.  My mum had seen an event posted about a charity event in support of Bury Hospice and decided we should get tickets.  I'm a bit of a stick in the mud when it comes to going out but reluctantly I agreed we would go and so tickets were purchased, after all it was for a fantastic cause and that is why I committed to attend.

We arrived on Saturday night to a packed club, every seat sold out, it was wonderful to see so many  supporting this fantastic charity.

There was a raffle and live music and later on a charity auction which really got the mood going.  Canapes were served later in the evening - a lovely accompaniment to the copius amount of wine which we drank - but hey, it was all for a good cause - I was here to enjoy myself.

Throughout the evening we heard many stories, each one about someone who had personally suffered or was close to someone who had.  Michelle who is a fundraiser from the Hospice spoke about how the money helped to build the New Hospice for Bury and the support and care that people receive from the wonderful team of nursing staff and volunteers who are involved.

I was humbled to hear of a gentleman in the room who had donated one of the auction prizes, he had lost his wife only 3 weeks earlier - and unfortunately also a relative of a friend of my mothers who, only recently having been diagnosed had her family called together as things had deteriorated.

People really do pull together for the Hospice, it's a wonderful charity, a dedicated service.  I know no - one who has not been personally affected in some way, shape or form when it comes to cancer.  I'm glad I went and supported the event, it really was an enjoyable evening.

Even better the total raised before leaving on the night was over £1,800 - a fantastic result and wonderful effort from the team at Walmersley Conservative Club!  This beat last years total of £1,500.  I was told only yesterday that the total actually hit £2,200 - WOW.

Thanks to the generosity of the people attending and others like yourselves, the New Hospice is many bricks closer to completion.
