Festival survival for the super-organised!

Right guys. It's still two months away but I'm officially very freakin' excited about going to Download this year! It's the UK's biggest rock festival (over 90,000 people apparently) and it'll all be happening from 6-11th June at Donington Park. The Prodigy, Metallica and Black Sabbath all at the same event? Yes please!

Although Download will be great no matter what happens from now until June, the way to make sure we all enjoy every second is to get organised - then there will be no chance of stressing out at 4am because of a severe shortage of clean socks.

To help myself and any other fellow festival buddies (not just at Download- the UK has loads of them!), I've come up with a list of essential items that YOU SHOULD NOT LEAVE YOUR FRONT DOOR WITHOUT PACKING:

1) Baby wipes. That festival hygiene staple! Trust me, you cannot take a big enough pack of these things. The possibility of facing five days in a field without a shower is enough to make you appreciate the simple, utterly wonderful clean feeling that the humble baby wipe provides.

2) Dry Shampoo. This product is the stuff of legend. If, like me, your hair goes flatter than a rather rubbish pancake when you can't wash it for a day or two, dry shampoo will become your best friend. But don't forget to brush it out well or you'll look like you've been a victim of a Jackass antiquing - see "The High Five" on YouTube if you aren't up to speed with this particular phrase!

3) Sun Cream. Decent stuff guys, not that rubbish factor 8, or you may as well slather yourself in baby oil and get the tin foil out. If the sun comes out at Donington and you have fair skin (let's face it, a lot of us rock fans do) it's best to get some protection from those rays or you'll end up looking like an overcooked radish. I find instant sun spray is a life-saver, absolutely no fuss whatsoever.

4) Wellies. Designer, cool colours, weird patterns - whatever you choose, a decent pair of wellies is a must-have for festivals. Although most of us will be hoping for glorious sunshine for the whole event the fact is that it will probably rain at some point. So best to be prepared. I know I've got a pair of Hunters with my name on.

5) Loo roll. If you are not fortunate enough to have considered the many benefits of the aptly named "comfy crappers" at Download this year, be sure to take at least two rolls of toilet paper. Those portaloos are without a doubt a very unpleasant experience indeed and a bit of loo roll (and hand sanitiser) goes a long way to at least make it bearable.

6) Comfortable shoes. I'm going with wellies, sandals and a trusty pair of converse. You will be walking a lot- traipsing through the camp site/ going to and from the car park/ wandering around the arena will not be much fun if your feet are killing you. Girls in particular take note, we do tend to suffer for fashion but festivals are not the time to do it.

And the other stuff is pretty obvious - a tent, clean clothes, enough money for the weekend (take advantage of the lockers!), plenty of beer and of course, your tickets!

You can find all the info you need at www.downloadfestival.co.uk - see you there!
