If you are out and about in the town centre this weekend, you are in for a treat.
Bury Acapeelers Community Choir are hosting the National Street Choirs Festival.
The Street Choirs Festival was created in 1983 to promote development through song of a society free from all forms of oppression, exploitation, exclusion and violence. Twenty-eight choirs from all over the UK are taking part in this years' festival in Bury town centre.
Organised each year by a choir in a different town in the UK; Street Choirs Festival has grown to include community choirs from around the country and there is now a wide variety of songs including, pop, rock, gospel, world folk, shape note, modern compositions as well as songs of protest, vision and ideals. Choirs join together to bring their songs directly to local audiences and sing collectively, publicly and powerfully as one voice as well as individual groups.
The festival takes place over the weekend of 13th to 15th July 2012 and it has been awarded the Inspire Mark by the London Olympic Committee
On Saturday 14th, the choirs will gather en-masse at 12pm to sing in Bury town centre near The Rock shopping complex before splitting into their individual groups to 'busk' around the town centre.
There are also two public concerts being held over the weekend:
Friday 13 July features
