Come and join in the fun at the Fusilier Museum on Saturday 26th June.  It’s the Museum’s first birthday and Armed Forces Day and they have decided to celebrate by offering everyone free entry into the museum!  Over 20,000 people have visited the museum this year which has proved to be a huge hit with families all over the region.

Covering over 300 years of the history of the people who served in the Fusiliers you will come face to face with the Heroes of the past, six Victoria Crosses before breakfast at Gallipoli, Frank Jefferson who blew up a tank single handed to save his comrades and you may bump into a few familiar faces as you explore the exhibition like Michael Caine who completed his National Service in the Royal Fusiliers!

To help celebrate Armed Forces Day there will also be exhibitors from the Fusilier family to help you find out more about Army Cadets, the Fusilier Association and the Fusilier Band.

During your visit don’t forget to re fuel in the Hero’s Cafe Bar with a delicious home cooked themed menu with tempting treats like Old Fashioned Bangers and Minden Mash, Churchill’s Steak and Ale Pie, Medal Soup and Hand Grenade Buns!

In addition to free entry they will be running a competition in the exhibition to win some fantastic prizes, including a personal shopper to help you spend £250 of vouchers in the brand new Debenhams Store in the Rock, a meal for two at The Pack Horse in Birtle, lunch for two in Hero’s Cafe Bar, two tickets to the Comedy Club at the Met Theatre and lots more!  Bury Tourist Information Centre who are located in the museum are offering the first 30 visitors a free goody bag!  So what are you waiting for?  Come and join in the celebrations!

Background

The Fusilier Museum is an educational charity and opened on 27th June 2009.  There are two main gallery areas housing our unique collections, of the Lancashire Fusiliers and the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers.  The exhibition introduces the visitors to the structure of the British Army and the background of the Fusilier regiments.  The visitor then meets the remarkable characters who help to protect and serve our country throughout history up to the present day.  Our collections contain original weapons, uniforms and artefacts that actually belonged to the heroes of the Regiment.  In addition there are two temporary exhibition areas with a changing programme of exhibitions.

The museum is well supported by an enthusiastic team of local volunteers who work on everything from research for people trying to trace their ancestors, to helping manage the collections and archive.

The museum is also the home of the Tourist Information Centre for the town where you can find out anything you need to know about where to stay and what to do during a visit to the area.
