Staff are celebrating after leisure facilities run by Bury Council’s Leisure Service scooped a hat-trick of awards.

Castle Leisure Centre, Ramsbottom Pool and Fitness Centre and Radcliffe Pool and Fitness Centre have all been awarded Quest accreditation demonstrating that they provide high quality services. The centres were submitted for the award for the first time earlier this year.

All three centres underwent an external assessment and a mystery visit.  Castle Leisure Centre and Ramsbottom scored the highest achieving ‘highly commended’; Radcliffe achieved ‘commended’.

Quest scores are classified into four categories of approved, commended, highly commended and excellent.  Centres applying for the first time rarely manage to achieve higher than ‘approved’.

Areas scrutinised for Quest include policy and procedures, customer service, promotions and marketing, health and safety, cleanliness and the programme of activities.  Staff and customers are also interviewed as part of the assessment.

Councillor Michael Hankey, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing,  said “Congratulations to Bury Leisure Services for achieving Quest accreditation at the three main sports centres.  Not only do the centres make a vital contribution to the quality of life of our communities but they also support our aim for more people to be more active, more often.”

Neil Long, Assistant Director of Leisure Services at Bury Council,  said: “We are delighted that we have achieved Quest in the first year of entering the award scheme.  Our aim now is to ensure that the centres continue to provide an award winning service to the local community they serve.”

Quest is supported by Sport England and defines industry standards and good practice and encourages their ongoing development and delivery within a customer-focused management framework.
