Thousands of people came into Bury to see the town centre in a totally new light.

The town buzzed with light and action as venues threw open their doors to offer a huge and eclectic mix of arts, music, performance, and much more.

Bury Light Night was the first of its kind in Greater Manchester, packed with special and unusual events against a backdrop of lit-up buildings and animated public spaces.

Businesses stayed open, and shoppers were kept busy at the town’s first ever late night specialist market.

Among the many highlights were Kay Gardens (lanterns and strolling musicians), Bury Metrolink (unveiling of a new public artwork), Crompton Street (including a Candle-lit Labyrinth), the Light Night Tepee, Castle Armoury (projections). There were also artistic events at Bury Art Museum, Bury Library, Bury Transport Museum (including a hot air balloon), Castle Leisure Centre (Zumba Street Party), and Bury Parish Church.

Many went to The Rock where there was a magical fire garden, street art, fireworks and a silent disco, while the Mill Gate centre featured light installations, music and the Bury FC Speedball Extravaganza.

Councillor Mike Connolly, leader of Bury Council, said: “We said this was going to be a spectacular and unique event, and so it was! I’m still amazed at the sheer variety of entertainment that was on offer, and enjoyed by so many visitors to our borough.

“I must thank and congratulate our many partners who did so much to make Bury Light Night happen. It’s another “first” for Bury, and hopefully it won’t be the last.”
