Bury College Update: New Apprenticeship Employer Funding from April 2021!

Recognising the value that apprentices bring to businesses Bury College is delighted to announce that the Government are expanding their comprehensive apprenticeship funding policy to facilitate even greater uptake of this invaluable initiative. With enhanced incentive payments for employers who hire new apprentices announced in the Chancellors recent budget statement this initiative has now been extended until 30th September 2021 and the payments are set to increase.

The purpose of these incentives is to support employers to build capacity and capability following the disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Creating high quality opportunities and equipping people with skills that are in demand is a win-win situation for both apprentices and employers.

Who is eligible to receive the latest incentive payments?

The incentive payments apply to all employers who recruit apprentices between 1st April and 30th September 2021, provided the eligibility criteria are met, there will be no limit on the number of initiative payments that you can receive i.e. 1 per apprentice.

What payments are you entitled to?

You will be entitled to claim £3000 per apprentice, regardless of age.

Employers who recruit apprentices aged between 16 and 18 will continue to receive £1000 in addition to the incentive payments, this means that you could be eligible to receive up to £4000 for each new apprentice that you recruit.

Apprenticeships are creating many excellent full-time careers for people across a wide range of employment skill sectors. Bringing keen people of all ages into a working environment in which they can learn and engage with colleagues, employers, and managers whilst remaining linked to Bury College for academic input and guidance is a great bonus. Not only do apprentices learn work-skills but employers gain valuable access to people who are motivated, well prepared, can learn the culture of the employer and become the natural first choice to fill permanent positions in due course.

Covid-19 has caused disruption during the past year, however, there are strong signs of the Country, industry and commerce coming out of lockdown restrictions. This in turn means greater opportunities for apprentices to join employers and become valuable team players.

Employers in all sectors, now is the time to recruit apprentices through Bury College and get geared-up to grow with them as the country gets back to ‘normal’ and with the incentives available why wouldn’t you?
