Bury Boxer Supports Barnardo's Appeal

Our very own super-bantamweight boxer Scott Quigg has been going the extra round in support of the Believe in Children appeal, which has been organised by Barnardo's. For every £1000 raised by the appeal, emergency food and personal care kits will be distributed for 600 children by Barnardo's. £1000 will also pay for a thousand children to have a hot breakfast.

The popular Bury boxer recently attended the Barnardo's North West Homelessness and Temporary Accommodation Project. The project was also visited by Chris Moon, a disabled ultra distance athlete who is currently undertaking the Post Office 1000 Challenge. Chris will be aiming to run for 36 miles for 30 days to complete the challenge, which is set to finish at the end of September. Royal Mail Group, the organisers of the challenge, are also sponsoring the Barnado's Believe in Children Appeal.

Chris was greeted at the project by Mayor of Bury, Cllr John Byrne and Scott, who said "Barnardo's is such a good cause, it helps to give people a fresh start in life that they otherwise may not have had. I will definitely be helping the charity in any way that I can in the future."

Joanne Welsh, the children's service manager for the Temporary Accommodation Project in Bury said "We hope that the tremendous challenge being undertaken by the Royal Mail Group and Chris Moon will encourage people to support our vital work with vulnerable children."

Donations to the appeal can be made by visiting www.postoffice.co.uk
