Paintings, textiles and ceramics will feature in the fifth annual Bury Adult Learners’ Summer Exhibition at Bury Art Gallery and Museum.

The gallery has worked since 2005 with the adult learning team, whose students and tutors have used work from its collection to inspire and inform their own work.

This year the gallery did not impose a theme, which allowed the students’ passion for their art work to shine through.

The Mayor of Bury, Councillor Yvonne Creswell, will officially open the exhibition on Friday 29 July. The exhibition will then run until 1 October.

The work was selected for the show by a panel of judges including Katherine McClung-Oakes, a curator at Bury Art Gallery.

She said: “We selected work that demonstrated a high level of competence in the students’ chosen media, in a range of materials and styles that represented the breadth of work done by the students.

“The submissions this year were of a high standard and the gallery is very encouraged by the level of skill demonstrated by the learners. It’s great to see such a diverse range of talent from across the borough.”

The gallery is open Tue-Fri, 10am to 5pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm.

Enrolment for adult learning courses in September is now taking place – for course details, go to www.bury.gov.uk/adultlearning
