Make no mistake this hotel qualifies as a 4* hotel and has everything it needs for the grading. But only just. The rooms are just big enough. The facilities are just OK. There is soap in the rooms, but just enough. Its OK as a business hotel, with free wifi and a passable restaurant (with an OK but not "WOW" breakfast buffet). And to be fair the leisure club and pool are very nice and well equipped.

Note for disabled visitors - like all Village hotels there is a huge flight of stairs at the front with a very pokey lift around the corner (which you will need to use if you have a lot of luggage anyway). We had a disabled room (quite by chance) with extra wide door and accessible bathroom. OK but not the best I have ever seen.

Finally, this particular Village has cornered the Bury market for Hen nights and low cost package weddings. Over the weekend we were there there were at least 3. If you are looking for a quiet break - this will probably not be your venue of choice.

On the upside the hotel is well priced for North Manchester and it is only a 10 minute drive into Prestwich and a further 10 from there to the City Centre and very convenient for getting to the Peaks, Dales and even the lake District (just 90 minutes when we did it).

Just dont expect a classy hotel. It is 4* and good value, but only just

Stayed at this hotel recently. I found the reception area nice and modern and the reception staff pleasant enough. The room I stayed in was very dark, and had to always keep the lights on. The window in the room was situated above a flat roof - along with the other rooms on the same level. This meant that I felt unsafe to leave my bedroom window open during the night, as it would have been accessible for someone to enter the room through the window should they wish.

The evening food was lovely, cooked very nicely and was also impressed with the breakfast - even though there appeared to be no order and lots of hungry guests!

Would stay again, but would not like to pay more money than what I paid.

Booked this really last minute and principally on the price. We were looking to get away near Manchester and this seemed like a good deal.

Needed communicating rooms as the kids had their own room and after a couple of calls direct to the hotel the ultra helpful lady on reception secured this for us.

Arrived at the hotel 8pm on the Sat night. It is a busy hotel and there were two weddings on so the bar was busy as was the reception area. We booked into the Italian themed restaurant for dinner. Again busy, but after 15 mins (were told it would be 20) we were seated and had menus. Food pretty good and service OK.

Our rooms were 266 & 264. These are 'family' rooms which basically means you get a double bed and a settee that converts to a double. Rooms fine, decor perhaps on it's way to becoming tired but OK.

Buffet breakfast next day with good selection of hot and reasonable selection of cold options. Sometimes a bit of a delay by the coffee machine. In the evening we went to the pub next door just for a change.

Had a swim next morning. Huge pool and what looked to be OK leisure facilities although didn't try them.

On balance we had great value for the price we paid (got one room for £69 and the other for £85 incl. breakfast, a Premier Inn might cost you that!

Hotel is busy so it's not really somewhere for a relaxing romantic break. All staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay.

Would go again.

we spent a week - end here for a 60th birthday, we was given a room at the back of the hotel (173) which suited us fine , a pain to find (up a floor in one lift ,along a long corridor then down 2 floors in another lift.) but was worth the messing . the room was spotless , very large and comfy ,beautiful view from room and very , very quiet. Breakfast on saturday morning was excellent , the staff very helpful...Sunday morning the hotel seemed very busy and a bit cramped in the dining area .but you could still get a decent breakfast. we would stay here again no problem.

Booked a last minute DBB night away for our Wedding Anniversary and paid just £75. We've always found Village to be good and we weren't disappointed this time. The leisure is particularly good and we used it twice during our stay, the changing facs are large and spotless, also a large pool with plenty of loungers made for a really relaxing couple of hours after breakfast.

Booked a last minute massage at the spa and the treatment from Jess was fabulous and excellent value for money.

We also had a drink in the Victory bar where the barman served my own personally designed cocktail and had dinner in the italian which was tasty.

What stood out at this hotel was the staff, from the bright welcome we recieved at reception, the lovely lady who booked in my massage to the housekeeper who changed the lightbulb all of them were so friendly and a real credit to the hotel.

For a leisure break we just can't fault and we will be back!!

I was here last week for a friends 60th birthday,it was my first time here.It is a busy place with lots of others celebrating birthdays and hen nights. The food was average as they were serving for over 200 people they did quite well. The entertainment was the main reason we were all there it was good too, with lots of music for different age groups.I did not stay in the hotel but some of my friends did and they said their rooms were good. The pool area looked lovely too.It is easy to get too off the motorway with ample car parking.

I recently dined in the victory pub which is situated inside the village hotel, I asked to see a children's menu which a young man kindly informed me of offers they had on at the time, this was greatly appreciated as it meant my 2 children ate for free! Under 5's eat free! (Excellent)
The only thing to receive this offer was for 1 adult per child to eat at full price, there was me and my husband eating so this was music to our ears, as I went to the bar to order the same young man was quick and efficient to serve me and greeted me with a smile,(I think he was called Dane), I started to place my order, as I started to order my children's meal there seemed to be a problem with the till, the young man explained that he would resolve the situation (I assumed he was a manager as he had a black t-shirt on) he explained what he had to do in order for me to receive this good offer, "fine no problem" was my reply, so I continued to order, as I was ordering a woman wearing the same uniform popped her head round the bar and said very abruptly "you can't do that", she then rambled off a stipulation to me on the offer which meant I had to pay for the drink, "it's not what it says on the menu" was my reply, as though I had just slapped her with a wet fish she expressed an attitude of "I can't be botherd arguing", she then told the POLITE man to "oh just do it" and she stormed off, I made a comment to the man along the lines of "great customer service eh" to which he actually apologised on her behalf which made me feel awful as he had done nothing wrong, I could see he was quite embarrassed by the situation. In the end the man served me exactly what I wanted and the order was complete, his service was quick and friendly, HE was a credit to village, the food was very nice and i will certainly return for more, As for the lady I'm sorry to say but she let the place down. She had a bad attitude and I hope she is not working on my next visit.

Stayed here on a Friday night on a Dinner B&B package, in an "Upperdeck" room for £95
The room was good and clean with a very comfortable bed ensuring a good nights sleep.
We ate in the Victory which supplied its usual fine standard of food, which gave you a £14.50 per head allowance on anything from the menu and if you went over you paid the difference (I think the same goes for the italian if you don't want to choose from their set menu and want to go for the full on). The breafast was good with plenty of choice and cooked items being brought out on a regular basis.
All the staff we had dealings with were very pollite, cheery and helpful
The swimming pool is nice and sectioned for people who want to swim and people who want to just mellow, it has various 3 spa pools, a steam room and a suana (which part of the seating was barried due to it being broken, this would not take much to fix)
The outside of the hotel needs a facelift as it is looking quite tired.
When you consider all that you get for your money it is well worth the price, i would have given it 5 had the place not looked so tired in the public areas.

Very busy hotel, located just where we needed to be. Good room but not very well lit and with dark decor. On the plus side breakfast was good and the hotel let us have a late checkout at no extra charge. Didn't use it but there was probably the largest swimming pool I have seen in a hotel, anywhere. Free wifi was also a bonus. Other guests did seem to make themselves heard at night in the corridors

I Came Here On 18th &19th April 2013, This Hotel Was Chosen By The Company Who Was Training Us. Was Very Impressed By The Outside & Interior Of The Hotel, The Staff Were More Than Helpful, Food Was Very Nice, Good Selection, Whilst I Didnt Stay Overnight Other People From My Group Did And The Only Complaint I Heard About The Rooms Was Uncomfy Pillows....(Each To There Own)

I stayed at the hotel on the recommendation of a colleague as it was an ideal place to meet him for breakfast.
I must point out that I booked late (only 24 hours before checking in) so didn't expect the best price. I was offered a twin room at £109 and opted for breakfast at an additional £10. So for £120 I was expecting a reasonable stay. My room had two spongy single beds and it really could have been cleaned better (plenty of dust in the corners and the bathroom could do with new silicon as it was dirty).
I used the gym and left my room key as security. The gym is good with plenty of equipment however when I went to reclaim my key they had lost it along with the paper sleeve with the room number written on it! I sprinted back to my room and thankfully nothing was missing so they recoded the keys.
The breakfast was the most annoying detail. I had prepaid 10 pounds and met my colleague who had walked in off the street and only paid £5! I know this sounds petty but it is quite galling. When I checked out I asked the desk about the discrepancy and they said there was nothing they could do and the £5 was a 'special seasonal ' offer .
According to my friend he has only ever paid £5 and the special offer has been running for at least the last two years!

In summary, could be cleaner. Gym is good. Don't pay for breakfast.

I have stayed in this hotels many times in the last 5 years due to work in the area. This is the first time back in about 18 months with the comments below:
Positive:
Rooms are fairly big
Choice of food good
Access to the free gym and pool is very good. Lots of equipment to use and large pool. Does get busy in peak times
Very friendly and approachable staff (Espicially on reception)

Negatives

Room felling tired. Dirty marks on wall. Toilet missing gromets on seat. Loose electric socket.Dirty Shower area.
I had a disabled room with a joining door that banged when the window was opened.
I ate in the resturant, food was ok. Service took ages (Over an hour for garlic bread and meatballs)
Breakfast - Ate at 7.30am not great quite good choice but had been sitting there a while.

Suggestions
Try and get a room that is not in the back. These rooms are not refurbished and are a walk to reception.

we booked a family room for two nights, but on arrival i wasnt sure if this was a family room? i queried this at reception only to be told it was a family room. our kids were meant to share a sofa bed, however, we felt this inappropriate as they are male and female and different ages. so my husband and son shared the sofa bed and we had the large comfy bed! the hotel was immaculately clean in every area. the leisure facilities where fantastic although the kids pool times where a little restricting. we ate at the hotel both nights, good choice and good quality food although on the first night they forgot the kids meal! however, my husband did complain to management about the room and they acted really quickly, we were given a better room with 2 kids beds and sky movies for the kids so well done village, we enjoyed our stay and would thinks about booking again, in an upper deck room

If you get a special deal this can be a fun family night away. The bedrooms are decent in size and beds comfy, our room needed a good clean so we asked to move and the upper deck room was very well cleaned. The gym facilities were great but the spa a little expensive. Pub served good wine and had a fun atmosphere. The restaurant food was high quality but overpriced, we were given discount vouchers for the restaurant on departure. The food was so good but it was empty in the restaurant so perhaps the high prices put people off? Oh and 3 menus was confusing, one menu would be better in my opinion. Breakfast was average, good choice but the hot breakfast was greasy and cheap, it wasn't that busy so an egg cooked to order would have made a big difference. Overall it's a handy location, lots on offer for a hotel and rooms are competitively priced so we will go again

If you are prepared to take the magical mystery tour to the annex at the back of the hotel you will find some very quiet rooms overlooking the river at the back. The rooms are basic but beds very comfortable. The highlight of the stay was the italian restaurant - great food at a very reasonable price and extremely pleasant, attentive staff who go out of their way to explain the extensive menu and make you feel very welcome indeed. I'd give it five stars but the bathroom was a bit tired, fancied a bath but the silicon sealant around the bath could do some some anti mould treatment and the fabric on the seat for the desk was shabby/stained and lastly no radio stations on the tv. But I'll definitely return for the food and the beds and the excellent team that work there.

We stayed 2 nights b&b and evening meal both nights (eating from the 2 for £29.00 menu
First thing it is accessible to wheelchairs (big plus when you are pushing someone in one) with lots of disabled parking spaces.
Although we did not book an accessible room, the bathroom had enough room and grips for a disabled person.
The bed was comfortable and we had two pillows each (yipee!)
We ate in Vinny and Vinos the first evening and the food was good although it took an eternity to get our three courses (2 hours plus)
The second night we ate in the bar and again the food was good this time with express service.
Breakfast was o.k could have done with a few more cereals to choose from.

Staff were friendly and helpful throughout

Another plus is that is very easy find being right on the Motorway exit.

Only gripe was wine was quite pricey £12.00 plus for a half caraffe was a bit steep.

However really enjoyed the break and have added it to my list of places to use for a short break or stopover

I am a gym member here and regularly stop over for theme nights such as Take That tribute bands etc. I also always try to fit in a swim/gym or both before or after work dependent on my shifts. This is an extremely busy hotel with a couple of good restaurants including the bar for lighter meals. The staff are exemplary and the rooms are good value. The only bugbear I have is the amount of time allocated to kids swimming lessons because there isn't a separate pool and the instructors like to occupy up to 2/3 of the pool area which is really annoying. They should get rid of the sun loungers and build a kids pool then everyone would be happy because alot of regulars are in agreeance. Apart from that, definitely worth a stay. Excellent value.

We stayed at the hotel for 3 days over Easter with a meal included on the first night.

We decided to try the new Italian restaurant vinny and vino.

What can I see apart from extremely poor if any director or senior manager of VILLAGE is reading this please think again or go bsvk to yhe drawing board.

Our starters took an eternity and when they arrived were wrong.

We left our starters and explained to staff in the bar.

A young man called Matt Ransom then used all his customer service skills and turned the whole experience into a positive one.

We sldo spoken to the hotel Manageress who was very sympathetic and listened to our experience and took on board our constructive criticism about the vino and vinny restaurant.

As for our food in the bar it was absolutely perfect so much that our friends that live in Bury were going there the following week to try.

This is the third time we have stayed at the village Bury and find the staff to be friendly and rooms to be comfortable.

We cannot wait for our next visit in June and will be spreading the word of this hidden gem of Bury.

My husband is from the UK, just outside of Bury, and when we would visit we would always stay with his Dad. Well, his Dad decided to move over to the states near us and right about the same time they built this hotel. We have been staying there ever since, at least for 10 years now, probably more. We've seen the hotel change and grow and it really is like a home away from home for us and our two boys, now 15 and 13. We have always had great service, great food and we even had my husband's daughter's wedding there in 2008. That went very well as we expected it would. We always get bed and breakfast and enjoy the full breakfast buffet every morning (although after 10+ years I have to be honest, some changes to the breakfast buffet, for me, the fussy American, would be very welcome). The pool and the leisure center is unsurpassed. I've also had the opportunity to use the spa a couple of times and that is also very nice with great service and offerings. We've had friends and family join us for the wedding and they've stayed here with us other times as well and everyone loves it here. You can enjoy Bury Market just down the road and the beautiful new Rock Shopping Center with shops galore and it's an easy drive by car or taxi or train in to Downtown Manchester with all sorts of wonderful shopping, restaurants and bars. Not sure when we'll be back but it won't be long.

Stayed here last August for one night. Deal included stay, 3 course meal, and breakfast. We do not live far from Bury so hotel easy to find from motorway. Plenty of parking available.
Arrived Friday afternoon and check in was ok and we went to our room. Not much info given about spa, restaurant etc is was a bit like find it out yourself.
The room was small but alright for a one night stay. However we were stuck at the back of the hotel and had a view of a brick wall!!! The lighting in the room was very dim not good for doing make up or your hair.
We did use the pool which we enjoyed along with the jacuzzi but we didnt have any spa treatments which are available at a charge.
We booked our evening meal time and this was very nice you chose from a set menu. Wine was not included and was a little pricey.
There is a lovely pub just across the carpark which we visited for a drink at lunchtime when we found it quite busy. However when we popped in at night it was so quiet it was closing early.
While there lots of guests were staying for a wedding and other functions which was ok untill you wanted to sleep. It was very noisey during the night by other guests coming back to their rooms very late and some running up and down the corriders banging doors. This spoilt it for us as it was a one night stay for a special birthday for me and I had a party the next day.
Breakfast was a let down as you had to wait standing untill a table was free and yet when after about 15mins we went in lots were free but uncleared. Also a football team were getting breakfast and eating elsewhere so you had to wait ages for food etc as they couldnt cope with the demand.
Would I go again maybe on a deal but I would ask for a better view and a quiter room.

Booked a night here which included dinner and breakfast for £68 so very good value, it s busy place with conferencing and leisure facilities, there is also a pub next door and its straight off the M66 at the bury turn off. The room was clean and had all facilities needed, check in was efficient although not particularly friendly. Dinner was average, considering it was a speciality Italian restaurant the pasta was very poor. You can be in bury town centre in 5 minutes and most places in the north west in an hour so good location. The noise from the m66 was quite loud once it got to baout 5am in the morning

Stayed as part of a hen package , check in busy but efficient , rooms comfortable , spa really good v relaxing and friendly . Had very good back massage and we were welcome to spend time in the relaxation space . Lobby very relaxing to sit and chat in . Attended the ABBA party night v well run, nice meal , comfortable spacious lounge areas with bar. Great if busy breakfast next morning and a visit to the pool/ hot tub rounded off a lovely stay. Would recommend for groups of friends or just a couple of people wanting a bit of chill out time .Some really good spa packages advertised throughout the hotel.
