Why should you check that your service providers are health & safety compliant?

If you are a Owner/Director of a company you are ultimately responsible for your company and your staff’s health and safety. If you request work to be carried out on your premises then you, as well as the company providing the service are responsible for the safety of employers and members of the public that may be affected by the work carried out.  If the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) was required to investigate an incident and conclude that a health and safety procedures were not in place or not followed, then both the company who requested the work and the company providing the service could be liable to fines of up to £20,000.00 and imprisonment.  (If you have any queries with regards to Health & Safety then go to.  www.hse.gov.uk)

How to check if your service provider is health & safety compliant;

  • Ask for a copy of their Health & Safety Policy
  • Request a copy of the Risk Assessment (this should be issued before work commences)
  • Ask for copies of training certificates
