Rebuilding the Building Regulations

"The RIBA is backing a general review of building legislation to recover some of the clarity and effectiveness it says has been lost over the last 25 years. The institute has sent a six-point plan of action for improving regulations to the government, with the aim of establishing the primacy of a streamlined system of Building Regulations in all matters of compliance."  RIBA Practice Bulletin No 560

This is in repsonse to to Andrew Stunnell who is responsible for Building Regulations on how the regulations to evolve.

In recent times there has been a conflict and overlap between the plannnig system and building regulations on needs to be done on buildings, often creating confusion.

Amongst other things being suggested, RIBA is calling for self-contained, practical guidance on compliant construction details and an end to the drift towards a reliance on third party documentation and standards.
