Local Graphic Designer’s 12 'Power Words' that Persuade!

Yale University’s Department of Psychology in the USA conducted a study and found that the following main 12 words have an ‘extraordinary power’ and influence in persuading potential customers to spend more time reading more about your product or service and eventually buying. These main 12 words are:

FREE, YOU, GUARANTEE, MONEY, SAVE, NEW, EASY, DISCOVERY, PROVEN, RESULTS, HELP, LOVE


Descriptive Power Words - Us graphic designers love to receive, short, sharp punchy copy. It’s this that really increases the ability to deliver a message with some impact. Copy supplied with these ‘Power Words’ and their descriptive ‘picture power’ will certainly ignite your customers’ interest and desire. So when writing copy for your next sales promotion, website or press release, try and replace ‘So-So’ words with ‘Power Words’ for your headline and body copy - See the graphic panel below for a full list.


Points to remember - If your ad, press release or flyer starts at the top with the name of your company, it’s time to think again and use these power words to describe the benefit to your potential customer or client. They only need to know your company name and contact details after you have highlighted all the benefits to them. If you start using some of these power words in your marketing and supply your designer, ad agency or design studio with good, punchy copy, it all helps with the end product - ie; your persuasive marketing material standing out from your competitor.
