I am now coming to the end of Year 1 of being in business and as is common, I have made a hefty loss. I can make all the usual reasonable justifications like set up costs, learning curves, circumstances beyond my control and so on. However Year 2 is now coming up fast. I now have the venue, the equipment, a modicum of experience and plenty of advice to hand. In other words it's time to get serious!
It's time to set targets and make those targets happen. There will be no one to blame this tme! There's no big investment to make, just the standard overheads I will incur every year, like rent, marketing and continuing professional development. I've got that same "no turning back now" feeling I got when that little white stick my wife bought at the chemist turned pink, or when I signed on the dotted line for my mortgage.
The first thing you do is gulp as you look at the size of the mountain you have to climb, but then you re-adjust your focus on your abilities and how much you want this to happen. I was born to do this, I'm a natural, and with experience I'll only grow stronger, I only have to put one foot in front of the other and it will happen. I believe in myself absolutely, I only have to embrace the urge to go and do it. My business is also my passion, to do it is as natural as breathing yet as exhilarating as flying.
It's an exciting, terrifying new challenge, like being on the precipice before a bungee jump, at the hatch before jumping out of the plane, putting your first foot on the rickety rope bridge. You focus, your plan in hand, focus on the objective, and then with a rebel yell, OFF YOU GO!
