We have been to many performances at this well established Lancashire theatre. Majority of plays are excellent and make a thoroughly good night out. Sadly the furnishings are showing their age, but that does not affect ones enjoyment of a play. The daytime cafe is a quiet place to meet a friend for coffee....snacks are pretty useless, but sofas are comfortable !

Good place for a cuppa 'n' cake catch up with friends, but doesn't open late afternoon, unfortunately.

It is tradition in our family to visit on Christmas eve and watch the Christmas production. However lately I have visited quite frequently and we always have a good time. Out for dinner first then show up at the theatre for a few drinks before hand and then enjoy the production. The performances are consistently good in my opinion and the lighting and sounding are always on point. The chairs are comfortable, its a professional and clean environment, what more could you ask for.

Absolutely brilliant. The late start and the absent actor did not detract from a stunning performance and deserving of 5 stars. The theatre is about to be refurbished so it will be even better!

The show was littered with unnecessary language which, in my view, reflects on the theatre. I also didn't find the sound quality good

This theatre is small and minimalist, both shows I've seen here have made you concentrate on the actors rather than impressing you with fancy set design. Cafe alongside is nice enough too.

The Octagon Theatre is one of my favourite places in Bolton. They have a diverse range of productions, the quality of which is always outstanding. The venue itself is due an imminent upgrade, but even so, it is comfortable, easily accessible and a great place to grab a coffee too. The staff are wonderfully attentive too, making the Octagon a must see in Bolton. Come drop by, you won't be disappointed.

My first visit to the Octagon and was very impressed, the seating is excellent and the quality of the production was exceptional. The theatre is easy accessed in the town centre, booking is straightforward and we enjoyed a pre show drink in the bar. There is a varied programme of productions on the calendar and would recommend a visit if something takes your fancy, a nice change from the TV!

I am coming towards the end of my second season as a season ticket holder at the Octagon Theatre and I can honestly say that I have yet to see anything less than a good production and usually the quality is very good to superb. You are never far from the action wherever you sit although I personally would not choose to sit in the gallery. I have been there before now and felt that I was looking down on the tops of the actors' heads from a position on the edge of my seat; anywhere in the stalls is infinitely better. The restaurant is popular place to eat, drink and meet friends prior to the show as is the bar for drinks before, during the interval and after the show. I can hardly wait until the day comes round for my next visit to see what I know will be a top quality production at the Octagon.

This is a wonderful theatre which puts on very high standard performances. The layout of the theatre means that for most performances you get a great view wherever you are sat. We usually make a few trips a year and have found the quality of the acting and the innvoation very impressive. They also offer standby tickets to people between the ages of 16-25 at a cheaper rate to encourage younger people to attend the theatre. If you are eliogible for these tickets they are great value - much cheaper than going to the cinema and makes a good night out.

A small very comfortable theatre. Wherever you sit you can see and hear. Planning to book for Piaff. A wonderfuol community theatre. Pleasant bar and a cafe. We have seen several productions over the years and plan to book for Piaff in April

The performances they stage at the Octagon are excellent. Local writers and performers as well as more established writers and performers. I visit many theatres around the country and the octagon stands up against any of them. I have seen performances here that I would never forget. "Oh what a lovely war!" And "road" to name but two.

They always have an excellent resident director and actors all want to perform here. To say the octagon is not in Manchester or London its reputation is excellent and is really punching above its weight.

The Bolon Octagon no matter what is on is a magical place.
The actors and actresses put 100% into all performances.
It is a very civillized place to be, the location is directly next door to a multistorey car park.
Drink proces are not all that bad at the interval.
I always enjoy going to the octagon Bolton

Saw the play Tull in this great little theatre in the beautiful centre of Bolton (what fantastic buildings surround it). The cast worked unbelievably hard to tell the truly remarkable and tragic story of Walter Tull. I will keep my eye out for other productions there as I will certainly visit again. I urge you to give it a go.

Have seen comedians here once or twice but this was our first actual theatre production.
We were lucky enough to get tickets for "Of mice and men" which is now a sell out show.
It was just amazing . The set with an actual stream running through the floor and the way the sets were changed was brilliant .
The actors were so believable especially the 2 main characters of "George" and "Lenny", their performances were magical .
Our whole experience at the Octagon has given us the theatre bug and we cannot wait to go again.

This was the first theatre I ever visited. It was on a school trip the year the Octagon opened. Since then I have visited occasionally until about 3 years ago when I decided to buy a season ticket.

I can honestly say I have never seen a bad play. Some have been outstanding. The staff in the box office are very helpful and all the staff are friendly. I like to visit various theatres but the Octagon is my favourite, very intimate, brilliant plays, scenery and the music is amazing. I can't praise this theatre highly enough.

A good choice of plays and exceptional facilities. There is also a lovely cafe but the off putting smell of fat sometimes spoils the experience especially during the day time. Perhaps a good fan in the kitchen would help with this. If you want a good night out with friends and family you could do no better than a trip to the Octagon.

Every production I've seen at The Octagon has been truly outstanding - and as a professional actress and drama teacher I have a lot of theatre to hold in comparison. Productions by both David Thacker and Elisabeth Newman are of the highest possible standard. The community involvement of the theatre is also second to none. I live in a different town and I wish so much that there was a theatre like the Octagon there.

Its also nice to call in during the day for coffee in the cafe downstairs

Set in a building considered very modern when built it is showing it's age a bit now however the setting / arrangement makes for a very good theatrical experience as most seats are very close to the stage and a good view is pretty much guaranteed - staffed by enthusiastic staff who are very helpful.

Not great if you are disabled as whilst there is a lift there can still be steps to tackle and some are quite steep. Pricing was reasonable and the audience was a very broad mix.

A Bolton 'gem' with some minor room improvements, every town should have one
