I was working in Preston for a week and not fancying staying in Preston itself, I booked myself in to the Holiday Inn in Bolton.

As Holiday Inn's go, it is pretty average. really - that's risk in staying in a "corporate" hotel. I was in a standard room which was again standard HI experience, although I must have been above the swimming pool as there was a strong smell of chlorine outside of the room but luckily the smell didn't get into the room.

The only real downside of the hotel is the restaurant, which is like sitting in a goldfish bowl as it's right by the main entrance to the hotel so everyone passing by or iin the hotel lobby can see you. The choices on the menu were fairly limited and the quality of the food wasn't great, there weren't any "specials" offered either. There was a notice in the lift with some on, but that didn't change the whole time I was there and certainly they weren't offered to me at any point.

In line with the mediocre food, the service wasn't that great either. I suspect most people eat out of the hotel where they can, unfortunatel being so tired each day I couldn't realy face this option although I did order a pizza in one night!

Swimming pool was nice, although the sauna was very small and the jacuzzi is no longer in use.

As I've said in the title, if you are after a bland no-frills and fairly souless experience then this hotel should be fine .

Nothing seriously wrong, but nothing outstading either.

This hotel is right in the heart of Bolton but no noise was heard during our stay. Comfortable rooms and a hearty breakfast was enjpyed . Leisure facilities are a little tired but they have installed a new sauna, my only disappointment was the jacuzzi was not working at all during our 3 night stay.
There seem to be some staffing issues with the hotel as receptionist seem to be stretched with their duties and they need to focus more on customers than tasks if the hotel is to develop.

Good business hotel, with a nice pool and gym. Perfect for a one night stopover for a meeting at Royal Bolton Hospital

Stayed here for Easter weekend and it was a good location with easy parking. Staff were friendly and helpful. Great for visits to Fred Dibnah Heritage Centre, Octagon Theatre, Bolton Steam Museum and for Manchester. Bathrooms need a makeover, as suggested in earlier reviews. Need new carpets. But with a 2 for 1 offer it was great value.

We just spent one night as in Bolton for a family do. We had a lovely welcome, staff are very friendly. The room was a good size, the bed was really comfortable. Would have preferred a quilt to blankets. The room was nice and warm and you could set the temperature individually. The bathroom could do with a little more TLC and a boy of a deep clean, but was adequate and the towels were clean and soft and plentiful. Breakfast was fantastic, plenty of choice, well cooked and replenished frequently. All in all a great place to stay and fantastic for it's price, will definitely be visiting again.

After reading various reviews on here I was apprehensive and what would await us no need from the moment I called to book a quiet room and ask a few questions I was impressed by their friendly tones. We arrived an hour early and our rooms were ready we stayed on 101 and 103 and they were immaculate with towels toiletries hairdriers lots of information packs etc Really shocked. After spending the afternoon in Bolton itself we came back to hotel and went in the leisure facilities. The gym was good had what you needed for a good workout. The pool lovely as was the sauna. The changing rooms amazing with in the ladies make up remover.cotton wool pads.ear buds etc etc.

We had our own food in the room in the evening as restaurant was very expensive. TV was good plenty of choice but we didnt really bothered as so tired we crashed out. Hardly any noise except a few doors slamming but that was the guests not holding their doors and was only unitl about 11pm so not really a problem.

Breakfast - wow plenty of choice excellent waiter Jao lovely man.

Had a great time staying here was first time we had stayed in a Holiday Inn and well impressed we got a special internet rate otherwise would not have been able to stay here.

Location very central to town only 5 mins away and very cheap taxis!

Loved it here would def go back.

With working in Bolton we staty over fairly regularly and this is one our our preferred hotels. Staff are always friendly, rooms always clean and comfortable. Biggest downside is parking. The hotel does have an underground carpark along with a small ground level carpark but any sort of function means you struggle for a space, it''s the downside of being a down town hotel. If you can book far enough in advance you can get good breakfast included rates but without I feel breakfast @ £14.00 a head is steep. Still charge for internet access too, I find this galling in all hotels not just here.

I booked our night at the Holiday In having read some of the reviews. The reviews were not all good and I must say there is no pleasing some people. For £69 for myself and my partner we had a clean quiet comfortable night in a perfectly located Hotel ( if you need to be in the center of Bolton). That was with breakfast which had everything you could ask for. All staff were attentive and pleasant. We asked for a quiet room and were moved without question. Car park was really convenient. We didn't have time to use the pool and gym but it was nice to have these things available. So all told I don't see what more you could ask for without paying luxury hotel prices. Chris Manchester

I stayed here for 4 nights whilst in the area on business.
The communal areas were clean and well presented, unfortunately the same could not be said of the room I stayed in.
The room was dark, small and had stains on the carpet. The complimentary ear plugs were alarming but thankfully not needed. I can honestly say I quiet room.
The bathroom was in poor condition, small with cracked tiles, ground-in dirt in the bath tub, white/grey towels I'd be embarassed to give a guest and a previous guests pubic hair.
All expenses were charged to my company but on three of the four evenings, I had to provide proof, the staff were apologetic each time and assured me they would get the matter sorted. Thankfully this was done on the third evening.
I tried to order room service and after 30 minutes of trying, went down to order. The gentleman in the restaurant couldn't have been more apologetic and waived the tray charge.
I found the majority of the staff to be professional, welcoming and friendly, something that the hotel can be proud of.

Located on the uninspiring northern fringes of Bolton town centre, this bland and corporate hotel ticks all the boxes for the business customers at whom it is squarely aimed. The building was previously part of the Moat House chain whose memory lives on in the cheesily-named Club Moativation fitness centre.

I have no complaints about my stay here, though I note that other reviewers haven't been so lucky. The staff I encountered were polite and helpful enough. Whatever your reasons for staying here, you'll probably find it a pleasant but forgettable experience.

Booked a coach trip to Manchester for one night, and this was the hotel that was organized for our stay. Whilst I have never been to Bolton before, and didn't actually venture out of our hotel, I can't really comment about Bolton or any of it's attractions! However, our hotel room was modest, 'old fashioned' tv, but pleasant enought for one night stay. We had a three course meal included in our trip, and full breakfast next morning. For the price we paid, I can't complain about either, as there were plenty of choice on both counts.
Good value and no complaints from any of us on our trip!

The price is far to high to stop there, as the rooms are nothing special. The food is nice, especially the breakfasts, continental and English. Staff are very friendly, convenient location.

We were very pleased with our stay at the hotel. It was even better than what we exspected. All the staff were very friendly and helpfull. The reception, bar and restraunt was imaculet and very stylish. Our room was lovely. We had teas and coffee facilities which we enjoyed. I was very happy to find we had a hairdryer in our room as i had forgotten mine, so that was a bonus. I will definatly come back to stay again. The breakfast was absolutly gorgous but a little pricey at £13.95 a time. As we were staying two nights because we were attending a wedding we askd reception staff to book a taxi for us as we were new to the area. Well the taxi thy booked was useless as the taxi driver took an hour to get us there and stopped four times to ask directions. We were therefore late for the wedding, and found out the actual journey to the church was only ten minutes away. All in all though i was very happy with my stay.

Room was roomy enough and well enough equipped without being exceptional. handy location just on edge of main shopping area but easy to drive to and with a lot of parking. Very efficient check in/out. Was relatively cheap and would use again.

Spent 3 nights here, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Reception was great, room was ready. Small problems with room, bulbs out and AC not working. Maintenance Man Bob was an absolute diamond, nothing was too much trouble, everything sorted quickly but couldn't get AC to work, so he immediately orgainised a room change, and helped us move next door. Well done Holiday Inn you have a treasure there, and many thanks to Bob.

I would add that I found the room a little 'snug' for a Holiday Inn, more 'express' size. Kept bumping into the basin when walking into the bathroom.

There was a wedding reception Saturday evening, no problems with noise. Sunday there was a Wedding 'Show' only problem there was that the Car Hire Company used the only 2 disabled parking bays to display their cars.

Breakfast comes highly recommended, plenty of choice, and hot food was just that Hot!!.

Did not use Lounge/Bar/Room Service so cannot comment, but all in all I found this hotel superb and would definitely recomend. Despite its ' City Centre location, noise was not a problem for us.

My one gripe - I booked online and a week prior to my visit I need to add one extra night. I did this too online, and somehow ended up with my original booking + the extra day and another completely new booking for all 3 nights. Obviously I did something wrong, so I telephoned the hotel immediately, and when I spoke with Reservations I did find the person I spoke with rather 'abrupt' firstly telling me that I would have to book the extra day seperately and that my booked rate (for the erroneous 2nd booking) would have to be paid for even if I cancelled, but that on this occasion she would allow me to cancel, although she really should not!). Must admit I felt somewhat apprehensive until I arrived and found all was ok with my reservation.

Have stayed at this hotel several times when taking our mother to visit relatives and friends in her old home town of Bolton. It is very well situated near the centre of town. Every time we have had a problem with our booking. This time the duty receptionist told us that we should have booked direct with the hotel rather than online as then we could have had our choice of rooms (as I had requested on the booking confirmation I brought with me). I said that surely it was up to us who we booked with and that the hotel must have arrangements with agencies to pass on information but apparently not.

We went to breakfast the next day and the duty manager said that we were not down on his list for inclusive breakfast. I again got our my confirmation booking and showed him that our booking was inclusive of breakfast. For a full 10 minutes he proceeded to question us about our booking and wanted to take away the booking sheet to reception but I told him I had already shown them. By that time we felt awkward and I said did he mind if we now had our breakfast as we were here on a few days break and he was spoiling our day.

We sent for room service on the second day as mum was tired. We ordered jacket potato with bacon and cheese. When it arrived there was only one knife and fork and the cheese was virtually not existant -one sliver on top of the bacon and the potato was almost cold. Anyway after a few minutes the room service man came back and asked us to pay for the meal by cash as he couldnt put it on our bill as our type of booking wouldnt allow it. At the time I showed him the potatoes and asked if we could have some more cheese - didnt mention they were cold as I felt sorry for him - he was only young and very pleasant (Daniel I think). He brought a little ramakin size amount of cheese up !! By this time he looked quite exhausted and had to go down again to bring my change up !

The restaurant staff need to be a bit more cheerful and attentive - once we got asked if we wanted a drink of tea or coffee and the other days none of the staff seemed interested. It would make a big difference if they were a bit more friendly.

The bar staff were friendly and helpful. The kitchen staff kept walking around at night with their dirty tea towels hanging out the back of their trousers which wasnt very nice - there were two wedding parties on while we were there too and I am sure this doesnt look good for the hotel. The manager needs to organise the staff better.

Anyway to finish off I reluctantly went over to check out at reception wondering what would happen and the young lady was very pleasant and duly told me that I didnt have to pay as I had already paid on the Thursday I arrived ! I said that that was news to me as the receptionist didnt ask me if I wanted to pay or even told me that I was paying up front for the three nights stay. So I looked at the receipt and realised they had now charged me VAT on top of my original amount which was supposed to be all inclusive. The reception manager was called and after about 20 minutes he managed to sort it out and refund the £60 taken out of my account without my consent on the first night we arrived.

A lesson to be learnt is that if staying at this hotel make sure you bring printed booking confirmation with you or you could be in trouble - or debt :) :)

I found the room clean and in great condition. The bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet and a good size.

There were plenty of spaces in the carpark when I arrived . Check in was fine, staff were friendly.

Would definitely stay again.

We were very surprised at the size of this hotel. We were made very welcome and had a pleasant stay. Room was great, staff excellent even though there were 2 weddings on and 2 coach parties in. Only fault we could find was it became a little noisy after midnight but we were on first floor and looking directly over the entrance.
