I visit Bolton regularly on business and this hotel is well located in the heart of the town.

On previous visits I have encountered noisy rooms on the 1st floor with constant banging of doors into the earlier hours. I raised this issue and the manager was very keen to discuss my concerns.

As I'm only staying for 1 night I decided to try it again and requested a room on another floor. Today I'm on the 4th and it seems a lot quieter.

I normally eat in the hotel as tired after a 5 hour trip and find the atmosphere a bit depressing with most clients eating on expense accounts.

I find the menu on the expensive side and food only in the middling range. They normally have 2 servers, one very experienced and friendly but they seem pushed if the restaurant has a lot of single tables. I paid just short of £22 for an ok rib eye and chips but got a small glass of complimentary wine as pre-booked before 6.30.

It's difficult to get the servers attention as they are moving between kitchen, bar and till so when my food arrived I rushed to order another glass of wine and some water as this wasn't offered before. I assume this is why I wasn't asked if I required any sauces such as mustard, which I would normally have with my steak .

The water arrived promptly but disappointly the wine never materialised even though it was initially charged to my account. Once I pointed this out it was deducted without any issue but I did feel rather uneasy about it.

The rooms are clean and functional.
The staff are generally friendly but I always feel underwhelmed even though I know they are trying to do a good job.

I stay in hotels all over UK and you would expect the price to match the local environment.

This hotel charges £20 plus for a bottle of wine where you could get 4/5 bottles for that in most of the pubs around it.

All the staff were really nice and great, the room we had was fairly big and really nice, had a awesome sleep, would recommend this hotel to everyone, especially there breakfast in the morning, it's worth the price you are paying.

This was our first stay at the Holiday Inn Bolton for nearly 5 years, the last visit being a weekend break in April 2010. Our room was on the 3rd floor and had views across the town centre. It was fairly well furnished and quite comfortable for our overnight stay. The hotel was also fairly quiet with it being a Sunday evening. We had dinner in the hotels Hardies Restaurant and although very quiet with only two other guests at the same time it felt quite chaotic with the one member of staff spreading herself between the restaurant and the bar. Rashelle who served us in the restaurant was extremely pleasant and welcoming and always had a nice smile.
Breakfast service was horrendous with all hot food trays totally empty and only replenished one tray at a time. Eventually gave up with my wife making do with some toast and I managed to get a fried egg when replenished. By the time the hot plates eventually replenished most of the guests had gone. The kitchen appeared totally disorganised and the member of the restaurant staff who greeted us at breakfast apologised saying that the kitchen had let them down once again. This seems to have happened on more than one occasion since another reviewer has made the same complaint. This was a most disappointing breakfast experience which tarnished what otherwise had been a pleasant stay.
The hotel is located right in the centre of Bolton with immediate access to all the town centre facilities. Free parking is available at the hotel although the underground car park is extremely tight especially if you have a large car. There is an alternative overflow car park to the right of the hotel entrance which provides a good alternative.
We will return to stay again at the hotel in the future and hope the restaurant experience is not repeated. This certainly let the hotel down badly.

Rooms are comfortable if a little tired looking now. A small number of car parking spaces are available in the basement. Overall a pleasant stay close to the centre of Bolton.

The lift smelt of wee and the TV and broadband didn't work but otherwise pleasent enough.

It was the lift I didn't like, I guess they would have fixed the other stuff but I arrived at 11.30pm and it was too late to start worrying about it.

This is one of those times you long for a 'good' rating. This isn't a 'very good' but I wouldn't want anyone to be concerned if they have a booking - it is fine and when on business I would use it again. Staff are friendly, however on both occasions I've stayed here I've had to join a queue to check in. Facilities are as you would expect for this type of hotel. Book if you want a table for dinner, on my first visit they couldnt accomodate me for over an hour. Breakfast is the usual for this type of hotel. It looked like they accomodate coach parties on my second visit - it got very busy over breakfast with very few tables available with a wait for some elements of the cooked breakfasts.

Stayed here for one night whilst attending a wedding at Bolton School a mile away. The room was comfortable and plenty of hot water. We had breakfast delivered to our room which was tasty and generous portions. The staff were friendly and welcoming. I would stay here again and recomend it for events in the area.

I've stayed here often when working in Bolton and usually it has been ok. Sadly this time I seem to have stayed the same night as a coach party and as a result there were problems at breakfast as reported in previous reviews.

If you are staying here my tip would be the coordinate your breakfast with other guests, or get up at 6.30.

The Holiday Inn Bolton is our go to place when staying in Bolton! We stayed at the Holiday Inn for 2 weeks during the New Year 2014/2015 period. This was our 3rd stay at the hotel in as many years.

Being ex-Boltonians now living in Australia, the hotel is very convenient for visiting family and friends in and around Bolton. We treated ourselves to an Executive room for our stay this time, thinking that it would be a little larger than a standard room, however although nicely decorated, there doesn’t appear to be any difference in size. The room was adequate, but a little small for such a long stay. The bathroom let the place down a bit, because the shower was over the bath and the older we get the harder it is to climb in! We have been advised that this will be rectified on our next visit, which is great!

What makes the Holiday Inn special is definitely the staff! We would like to make special mention of the domestic staff, especially Bernadette, Peter & Linzi. The restaurant staff are also very friendly, both at breakfast and evening meal, and the receptionists were very courteous and helpful.

All in all we had a good stay at the Holiday Inn Bolton and we will definitely be back!

stayed on the 21 January for one night.
Staff very friendly and had a good room on the first floor.
Had a good meal but would have preferred my coffee after my cheese rather than before.
Excellent nights sleep and comfortable bed.
The only let down was that the gym was out of action.
However for £67 for the room you can't complain really.

Exactly what I would expect from a Holiday Inn. Good standard of staff, good standard of room, good standard of cleanliness, gym facilities OK. Car park small, but spare spaces during my stay.
Didn't eat in the restaurant as I wanted to eat outside of hotel.
My only problem with this hotel (as with all other HIs) is the high price charged for breakfast. Why £14? I had no breakfast, as I couldn't justify this cost, even on expenses!

This hotel is close to the city centre and rail station so good location for business travellers. The underground car park is very tight if one of the last to arrive but there is an outside overflow - not great in the winter. Warm and friendly welcome from Reception staff who handled all my requests (printing photocopies, looking up rail timetables, arranging taxis etc) quickly and competently. The rooms are fairly basic but modern slim TV's with a range of channels, good desk/powerpoints for working and a most comfortable bed. Slight grumble that the staff did not bother to smooth the sheets for my 2nd night. Bathroom rather aged but perfectly serviceable. Good shower with ample jets of hot water, non-slip mat provided, firm handrail for access and a proper shower curtain. Breakfast was fine and the chef soon produced some fried bread as requested. Fruit minimal and fruit juice longlife and undrinkable but this is Bollton not London and the Holiday Inn for £94/night including breakfast not the Savoy ! Recommended for a no frills stay.

I had to stay here for a few nights while I was working. I cannot fault the staff as they were polite and helpful at all times. With it being a ten minute walk from the station and right next to the local shops, I found it ideal for being in Bolton. The only annoyance I had was the giant air con unit right outside my window.

My husband and I got married at the weekend and chose The Holiday Inn Bolton Central for the venue of our Reception after the ceremony. We have both been married before so this was quite a small party but the staff at the Holiday Inn still provided us with amazing service to help make the day a special and fantastic experience!

Right from the outset Emma Noone (Conference & Events Co-ordinator) could not have helped us more and was completely accommodating to all our requests for the day. She was in constant contact prior to the day so made us feel really special as important customers for our big day.

All the staff we had contact with were extremely pleasant, the chefs very accommodating to our special dietary requests for some vegan family members, with not a hint of any restrictions or trouble for them and all the food was wonderful on the day.

The staff at the hotel for our wedding day made it wonderful!! Thank you to everyone especially Emma Noone!

lets start with the car park. at least there is one. under the hotel squeezed in like sardines between the concrete pillars that keep the hotel standing.not sure how many people have scratches on their car from other guests squeezing in or from having to squeeze in them-self but would think there is a few including me with somebody parking too close ( after i had parked right in the corner app 2 inches from a wall )pleasant at reception and recognized as platinum ihg member.room was on 1st floor on side of building at very end of corridor with a view of a great big air conditioning unit less than 10ft from my window. room was very dated and the cleanliness of the carpets left a lot to be desired with big dirty marks spotted all around. a hole in the bedroom wall where someone had hit it with something and mold in the corner of the bathroom next to the extractor fan.not to mention the plaster coming off the ceiling. the carpets i decided to live with but didnt see the issues with the bathroom till during the night by which time i wasn't going to ask for a move. the worst of all was the swimming pool and related " facilities ". the mini gym had broken equipment in it and the equipment was very dated. the floor in the male changing area had cotton buds, paper tissue, orange peel, a discarded disposable razor and various other bits of rubbish all over it. only 1 of the 3 showers worked ( 1 of the 2 not working had a screw in the base of the on/off unit ).the bags for your wet swimming kit were empty and the bin was fool. there is a sign on the wall at the pool for sauna and solarium but there was no solarium and the sauna reached a high of 65. when i complained about the " facilities " i got an apology and was told that as it was the 7/1/15 no one had as yet come out to fix the issues in the gym. they didnt even know about the showers despite a gym member telling me they had been like that on and off for weeks. breakfast was fine with a good selection and tables cleared promptly. check out was fast and efficient. not enough to save it however, i wont be back to this particular hotel despite being platinum ihg member. very disappointed.

Very nice. Dinner in fact was excellent, given the numbers of people and the style of the evening. Live music wasn't great, though she did try. DJ was ok. I thought we would have been in the main room, and was disappointed in the function room.

Overall, I thought a good venue and the food and staff were very good.

We didn't stay overnight, so I can't comment on rooms or breakfast.

I was visiting friends in Bolton. On the whole my wife and I enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Our only criticism was the lack of temperature control in the room. The heater was on full all night so we were hot and uncomfortable. Didn't sleep very well!
