No parking concessions for Bishop's Stortford shoppers this Christmas

With shoppers starting to gear up to the festive season and the copious amounts of presents they have to buy to keep family and friends happy, it will come as a blow to know that East Herts District Council is unable to offer parking concessions in its car park in the run-up to Christmas and New Year.

It's a real shame as by offering shoppers discounted or free parking, the Council will be helping people to shop in their local, independent stores in the town centre. With the prospect of charges, many may decide to drive out of town to take advantage of the retail park's convenience and free parking.

Charging and enforcement arrangements in Bishop's Stortford for Christmas 2012 and New Year 2012/13 are as follows:

  • Tuesday 25th December (Christmas Day): No car park charges and no enforcement
  • Wednesday 26th December (Boxing Day): No car park charges and low level enforcement, mainly of single and double yellow lines
  • Tuesday 1st January (New Year's Day): No car park charges and low level enforcement, mainly of single and double yellow lines

Enforcement on all other days throughout the festive period will be to the Council's usual pattern and strength.

It is worth noting that some motorists do not seem to think that yellow lines are enforced on Bank Holidays. They are so make sure you avoid a PCN and take advantage of the free off-street car parks.
