Here comes 2018, with all the hopes and aspirations that each New Year brings, now is the time to look forward to a whole new year of fresh opportunity.

New Year’s Resolutions, have you made any?

Favourite amongst New Year's resolutions are to Stop smoking, cut down on drinking, stop overeating, start a diet etc. Too many resolutions last into the middle of January before being forgotten.

So, how about some alternatives that may work better?

Be happy, work harder at living your life in a positive way that is going to improve your happiness.

Look for new opportunities to enjoy life, that may mean a change of diet and become healthy but why not join a gym, go swimming a couple of times a month, go walking in our fabulous countryside once or twice a month with friends, more if possible? These are much nicer ways to get healthy and enjoy a better quality of life and they don’t cost the earth.

Meanwhile, New Year's Eve and New Year’s Day are a wonderful opportunity to reinforce the good things in life, family, friends and well-being. After the Festive Season, we begin to get busy again with the decorations coming down, the Christmas trees moved out and ‘normality’ returning to our homes.

However, New Year's Eve is our last opportunity to have a party in 2017,

the Apollo Basingstoke is holding a Black and Gold Masquerade Ball making it the perfect venue for a very grand party. It is that one special night of the year when you can dress in glamour and sparkles and join them for their magical Black and Gold Masquerade Ball, with an indulgent four-course dinner, and resident DJ it promises to be a delightful evening to remember throughout the new year to come.

Elsewhere, many of our local eateries are offering New Year’s Eve culinary delights, whatever your preference of food there is much to offer and tempt your palet.

Please, don’t leave your arrangements to the last minute Book you preference now to avoid disappointment. Find out what's on

New Year’s Day is great for a family walk, we have a dozen Parks and many outdoor spaces with masses of fresh air and exercise, why not blow the cobwebs away after the parties with a nice walk?

Enjoy.

Happy New Year from The Best of Basingstoke.
