If you want 5 star luxury close to the centre of St Peterport, this is the place to stay. It's close to shopping, good restaurants and ferries to Herm and Sark. Just stay clear of their granuled scrambled egg at breakfast.

Stayed here with my wife for a weekend break. Our arrival was handled well and I’m pleased we’d booked a bigger room - the standard ones looked very snug.

The property itself is beautiful, with some great artwork but the execution of service on all too many occasions was sorely lacking.

From not being able to get through to room service to order drinks (ended up with a voicemail simply saying no one can take my call) to sitting in the garden for well over an hour without anyone asking if we wanted anything, the missed service opportunities (and in turn income for the hotel) seemed to to smack of a cliched 1970s seaside hotel.

Plates at breakfast were left far too long before being tidied away and the quality of the fruit juice deteriorated every day, too.

Given the substantial price tag and the way the hotel bills itself, I had far higher expectations when it came to service levels.

One does not keep returning to a regular hotel unless it is something special. And 'The OGH' is that. The ambiance and attention combine well with its style and location. Yet of course one also notices nuances and changes. This time it was the less than refined service - with one notable exception - in the restaurant. One joy if the weather suites is breakfast in their lovely garden - yet the day we could was spoiled by an incompletly laid table and that I suspect we were forgotten 'out there'. Another time our cooked breakfasts were produced before we'd finished our cerials. We dined in one evening and had a long wait - apparently our starters were taken to another table. Thus my main, Duck Cottage Pie was well over heated - scaldingly so. Now in the grand scheme of things hitches happen - its human. But OGH was not like this in its 4 star days. So we are disappointed but not sufficiently not to return. We will. There's far more good, nay excellent which makes it a favourite - not least the Housekeeping. Our room, albeit compact was immaculate when we returned in the afternoon and then again after dinner it had been prepared ready for us. Fresh fruit is there and each evening a litle box of goodies. And, I nearly forgot a Carafe with fresh ground coffee. The same must be said of reception, concierge and Duty Managers. Ready to greet, help and give useful advice.

We got married here in the summer and ourselves and relatives stayed here too. Perfect choice couldn’t fault a thing, the staff were friendly and ran a seamless service nothing was too much to ask, the food and drink were great too and lots of choice. Located at the top of town so the views are lovely of the harbour and islands. Would definitely recommend.

This was a wonderful hotel to stay in - nothing was too much trouble for the staff and they were all extremely courteous and went the extra mile on everything. Even though the hotel is more for adults than children, the hotel spa was luxurious and welcomed well-behaved children and the staff were wonderful with our 9 and 11 year old boys. The outdoor swimming pool was cold but set in lovely gardens. Parking was very tight around the back of the hotel but it was in a fantastic location in the heart of St Peter Port. In our eyes, this hotel totally deserves 5 stars.

We spent just three nights at the OGH after an absence of about fifteen years. The new owners have plainly spared little expense in rejuvenating this old gem. The public rooms are beautifully furnished and generate an air of calm. We dined out but noticed that the prices in the two-rosette restaurant are high. The brasserie prices looked much more manageable and, judging by the splendid breakfasts and lunchtime snacks, is of high standard. Our bedroom (312) was of the basic variety (there is a wide choice) and was small but splendidly fitted and furnished. The bathroom was brand-nrew and immacuilate. There's an excellent gym and spa. Kindly staff abound. We paid £480 for three nights and felt we had good value. Just one moan - the outdoor pool is small with too few loungers for the number of guests. We arrived at lunchtime on a lovely sunny day, just wanting to lie and read. There was a body or a towel on every lounger. The managements have promised to seek to address this.

This hotel is a wonderful and relaxing place to stay. Rooms are clean and well furnished and designed. Food is of a very high standard. All the staff are courteous and very caring, looking after everyone's needs. They certainly take a great deal of pride in their work. Do not miss out on this hotel, convenient to shops and restaurants.

Just returned from a 3 night break at the OGH as an extended family group over 4 generations from 8yrs to 80yrs. The whole experience from making the booking over the phone, to checking in, to departure was everything you would hope it to be from a luxury hotel. Without exception all staff were pleasant, curteous and accommodating, nothing was too much trouble and any requests or observations made to them were actioned there and then without question or fuss. Given the hotel's diverse clientel, I think it is testament to the ethos and management of the OGH, that they seem able to create an atmosphere where everyone, whatever the group dymanics or reason for their visit, is made to feel comfortable and at ease. We had 3 rooms, all in the suite or refubished category, and if you are booking for a special occasion and want something luxurious I would definitely recommend splashing out if you can. They are beautiful. Requesting a room with a view and or balcony is also advisable. Food in the Hotel, whatever we ordered and wherever we chose to have it, was excellent as was the service. Lot's of nice little touches - complimentary sweetie jars for the children, evening turn down service, our rooms were generally serviced whilst we were having b'fast, boardgames in the lounge, complimentary papers, umberellas, chocolates........... As I had advised the front desk that we were there for a special occasion we were presented with complimentary champagne and fruit platter with handwritten card aknowledging the celebration. We didn't use the Spa, but it looked fab. No indoor pool, but outside pool was set at tropical temperature - my daughter swam in the rain!!
This Hotel could be perfect, whatever hotel experience you're looking for.

Just returned from our second visit to OGH and we were not disappointed. The staff are truly oustanding and do all they can to ensure that you are made to feel welcome and at home at their wonderful hotel. Special thanks to Harry who is rightly proud of his hotel. We stayed in the Herm Suite which has a fabulous view over St Peter Port and across to Herm and it really is a magical place to watch the sun come up or go down. Our room was large and luxurious with a huge bathroom with plentiful supplies of good quality toiletries. The red carnation group have also bought the Duke of Richmond in St Peter Port and we ate there one night which was very good although for us the OGH remains THE place to stay on Guernsey and we are already planning a return trip.

We have just returned home having spent four nights at the OGH. Wonderful from the start and the staff extremely friendly and very helpful. Will definitely be returning. Very handy for the town as just a short 2 minute walk.....downhill! We had a wonderful view of the port from our room which is featured up above. The most comfortable bed in the world and we wanted to take the bathroom home with us. Would highly recommend this hotel and worth paying that little bit extra. Missed out on afternoon tea and the Indian restaurant so will have to return soon.
