It's a nice hotel in a town with limited accommodation options. That may be why it is expensive. The staff are excellent though and work hard to ensure top quality service. Reception, porter and concierge were top drawer. They offer free valet parking & good advice about places to eat in town.
Hotel rooms are fine but they are small (& not cheap).
Also they have a nice bar & good views

The quality of service is amazing. Without exception every member of the hotel staff we met were friendly, courteous and above all eager to please. If you transplanted the staff to any other average hotel it would transform the experience to an enjoyable one.

The OGH is in a great location and just a two minute walk to the main shopping street.

Breakfast was good and the one meal we took in the Brasserie was excellent. All extras like teas, coffees and alcoholic drinks were surprisingly reasonable; £2.50 for a pot of tea.

It's a quirky building with multiple extensions over time which makes it more interesting than a modern box hotel. The furnishings are traditionally elegant and comfortable. Other reviews have mentioned that the hotel is a bit worn in places. We had one of the suites and the walls are covered in fabric which had dark patches caused by the air conditioning vents. It's hard not to notice this when you first walk in but the other qualities of the hotel and service soon make this superficial and irrelevant.

We found the bed a bit firm but housekeeping added a mattress topper and it was comfy thereafter.

Stayed for 3 nights, which included an anniversary, and went for upgrade to a suite which gave super views over the harbour from a massive balcony. The room was comfortable and good sized and staff most attentive, helpful and very polite.
Restaurant was top notch so that we ate in 2 nights and well enjoyed the fayre.

This was a return visit to the OGH and we'll definitely be back again.

The service is truly 5 star (Harry Seepaul is fantastic - every hotel should have one!). The weather may have been awful, but that's when you appreciate a good hotel with great food.

I and my colleague visited Guernsey again recently, in my case 36th years and my colleague 28 years of visiting Guernsey and stayed at the O.G.H as usual. As normal we made our hotel arrangements initially through General Manage,r Andrew Chantrell and asked for and received the rooms we had requested at a reduced cost - no doubt as we are 'old stagers'. From then the arrangements we made were perfectly adhered to and it was great to see some of the staff again who have been at the O.G.H. for many years including Harry Seepaul, Client Services Director and Ken, Restaurant Manager, to name a few. This speaks volumes in itself because the hotel & restaurant business has a well known regular turn over of staff, so obviously they must be contented in their lot. The service was as usual friendly, efficient and caring without being over fussy, from the kind and courteous lady Receptionists and beyond. We were well looked after and in a personal kind of way. God willing we will return next year at least once.

Just had a 3 night stay here, and everything was absolutely first class, breakfast was great and the staff superb, cannot fault anything here. It truly is five star, will certainly come back again.
Also Europcar was best car hire company.
We visited the International food festival over the weekend, really great

Hotel location in St Peter Port, staff and accommodation were excellent. The staff in particular all went the extra mile to help. When Condor ferries created a problem in returning home the staff looked after us and extended our room booking for the day. Food was high standard breakfast and evenings. The only negative was the Indian restaurant within the hotel which although the food was good the atmosphere was almost church or library like.
Spa and pool were well maintained and very well run.

Great hotel service and location, nothing was too much trouble and amazing breakfast. Special thanks to reception, as we made a mistake with our booking and they still squeezed us in and even gave us an upgrade. Faultless and a great bank holiday venue.

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights last weekend. First impressions were of a very well kept and well run hotel. Our first night was spent in a double room (having asked for a king size on the online booking form) which was very small for a hotel of this size and we were at the start of a corridor so were disturbed by people coming and going. Then at 3 in the morning some guests decided to finish their evening outside in the garden, directly under our room. So very little sleep and a visit to the reception the next day to ask to move rooms. I also pointed out that we should have had a king size room as per the booking form but was told this was just a request not a given! The receptionist initially offered to move us at an extra cost but having already spent a great deal of money on the room I declined at which point she offered to "comp" us the upgrade - I still think it is what we should have had in the first place but either way we packed up our belongings and the hotel moved them into a much quieter, bigger room with a King size bed as requested, tucked away right by the gardens and swimming pool.
The gardens and pool are lovely and secluded and the pool is heated.
We only had breakfast in the hotel but it was fabulous, great selection, well presented and the dining room looks out across the port.
The valet parking was a bonus as the car park is very tight to get in and out of but our car appeared each time we needed it within minutes.
The gym is packed with equipment and the staff in there very friendly and accommodating.
I used the Spa twice for different treatments and it was lovely and relaxing to the point where I fell asleep during my facial!!
All in all a lovely hotel, great staff, great position in the town and I would recommend a stay to all (just go for a room bigger than a standard double).
