Thursday 8th January 2026
Hi *|FIRSTNAME|*,
I hope you have had a lovely Christmas break and you're now looking forward to a new year full of promise and great opportunities.
You may have committed to making changes in your life, some 'new year resolutions' perhaps with some personal goals. Maybe you're lucky enough (like me) to have a 'caring partner' who generously bought you 'a gym membership' for Christmas. (Ummn, I wonder what she is hinting at!). But whatever your targets are in 2026, I wish you the motivation, determination, support and good fortune to achieve them - or at least until the end of January! Good luck!
So here we are in January which for many can be a challenging month, particularly if you run a business that depends on consistent local support from its community. Of course there's usually less money to spend after a busy Christmas, or we are more tempted to buy a bargain in 'The Sales' online and avoid the lousy weather outside. But please spare a thought for the businesses that have supported you and gone the extra mile over recent months to give you the best possible service they can, because they need us now more than at any other time of the year to survive or just to make a reasonable living. We all hate seeing another empty premises as a result of a small business having to close down. So PLEASE let us make a commitment today to consistently use the brilliant facilities and services our local businesses provide, because they need us as much as we need them.
Despite the cold weather etc, there are loads of upcoming events in the town over the coming weeks including news of THE LEICESTER COMEDY FESTIVAL, THE HARBOROUGH FILM FESTIVAL and a calendar of 'creative things to do' as published by Creative Harborough' which we'll be uploading to the bestof website throughout the month. So please
bookmark the website's Whats On page to keep up to date with what's happening.
DUNCAN MURRAY WINES are once again hosting their WUNDERBAR (pop up wine bar) this Friday 9th Jan from 4pm -8pm, followed by their hugely popular SATURDAY FREE WINE TASTING from 12noon - 3pm, featuring some very special wines from South Africa and Italy. Go along if you can (more details given below) as you'll be made very welcome.
If you are supporting or following HARBOROUGH TOWN FC, you'll know how brilliantly the team is doing this season in the Southern League Premier (Central) division. Currently lying 2nd in the division, but with 4 games 'in hand', this weekend they take on their main rivals, SPALDING UTD (an away game at the Sir Halley Stewart Field, Spalding, Lincs) - a top of the table clash. So we wish THE BEES the best of luck to bring home the 3 points and may their great form continue.
Please scroll down the page to see some great
local offers from highly recommended businesses in the Market Harborough vicinity and find some
upcoming events in and around the town, brought to you by thebestof Market Harborough, your community hub for thebestof everything local.
And finally, if you have or haven't been to the theatre recently, perhaps now is the time to be entertained indoors in the warmth of HARBOROUGH THEATRE. They have an agenda of excellent plays to enjoy including 'Bleak Expectations, by Mark Evans. Apparently, "it's the story Charles Dickens might have written after drinking too much gin!"
It will run from Tue 13th January to Sat 17th January 2026 and
you can still buy tickets online here.
Keep safe and have a good week,
